Book World SHOCKED! What This Revelation Means for Your Reading List!
Books & Literature 29 November 2025

Well, folks, it's that time of year again – the annual deluge of "Best Books" lists has officially begun! If you're anything like me, your "to-be-read" pile is already teetering precariously, threatening to topple over at any moment. But hey, who can resist a good list of recommendations, right?

Book World SHOCKED! What This Revelation Means for...

This week, the literary world has been buzzing with two major releases: NPR's sprawling "Books We Love" and the *New York Times*' more curated "100 Notable Books of the Year." Both offer a fantastic starting point for holiday gift-giving (or just some serious self-gifting, no judgement here).

NPR's "Books We Love" is truly something to behold. Forget your neatly arranged top tens; this is a full-on literary buffet! With over 380 titles, it's a testament to the sheer diversity of reading experiences out there. What I particularly appreciate is the ability to filter by genre, intended recipient, and even length (perfect for those of us with limited reading time!). And the "seriously great writing" category? Now that's a stamp of approval I can get behind. This resource goes back to 2013, so there are now over 4,000 titles. It's actually mind-boggling!

Then there's the *New York Times*' list, which for many, is the gold standard. This year's selection, as usual, offers a well-rounded mix of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry. It's always interesting to see which major award winners make the cut, and which ones get overlooked. This year, Lucas Schaefer's *The Slip*, Kirkus Prize winner for Fiction, and Booker Prize winner, *Flesh* by David Szalay, both landed spots. However, one notable absence is Rabih Alameddine's National Book Award-winning *True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother)*. Awards aren't everything, I suppose.

Beyond these two big lists, remember to check out recommendations tailored to specific interests. There are tons of curated lists floating around, focusing on everything from BIPOC authors to books perfect for cozy winter nights. And don't forget the power of a good book podcast to keep you company during those long holiday travels!
