British Actors Launch Indie Label: What Secret Project Are They Hiding?!

Hold the phone, folks! It looks like the UK acting scene just got a serious shake-up. Two bright stars, Sam Buchanan, known for his role in "Back to Black," and Issy Knopfler from "Before We Die," have thrown their hats into the ring and launched their very own independent production company. And the name? Silent Knight Productions. Pretty cool, right?

British Actors Launch Indie Label: What Secret Pro...

This isn't just some vanity project, either. These two are clearly serious. Their first project is already underway: a short film called "Day Release." What's even more interesting is that "Day Release" marks Buchanan's directorial debut. Talk about jumping in at the deep end! I always find it fascinating when actors decide to step behind the camera. It often brings a whole new perspective to their work, and I'm excited to see what Buchanan brings to the table.

The short film is written by Lewis Jamison, who's also co-directing with Buchanan. Jamison also stars in the film, which centers on a man from Middlesbrough who, on temporary release from prison, is trying to mend bridges and escape his past. But here's the local flavor: the story unfolds in North Ormesby, a Middlesbrough suburb affectionately known as "Doggy." I love that kind of authentic detail. It grounds the story and gives it a real sense of place. This is the kind of stuff that really makes a film sing, you know?

"As an actor, I’ve been fortunate enough to work on such a variety of projects with directors I admire so much. I was properly excited to have the opportunity to get stuck in on the other side of the camera," Buchanan shared. It's clear he's passionate about this venture, and that's contagious. That sort of excitement is exactly what you need to fuel an independent production.

Buchanan and Knopfler actually met while working together on the fantasy series, "The Wayfinders." Apparently, they clicked, and this new venture is the result. What’s particularly inspiring is their mission. Buchanan explains that their goal with Silent Knight Productions is to "create work, opportunities, and to give a voice to creatives struggling to get their head above the parapet." Now that's a mission statement I can get behind! The industry definitely needs more companies willing to champion new talent and fresh perspectives. It’s tough out there for up-and-coming filmmakers, so anything that helps level the playing field is a win in my book.

So, keep an eye out for Silent Knight Productions. They're definitely ones to watch. I, for one, am eager to see what they come up with next. And who knows? Maybe "Day Release" will be the start of something truly special. The indie film world could definitely use a shot in the arm, and these two might just be the ones to deliver it.
