Murcia Christmas Market Opens SO Early?! See the Festive First Look!
Current Affairs 28 November 2025

Murcia is jumping the gun on Christmas this year, and I, for one, am completely on board. The popular La Manga del Mar Menor Christmas market is back, kicking off the festive season bright and early on December 6th. That’s right, before most of us have even thought about untangling our fairy lights, Murcia will be in full Christmas swing!

For those of us expats who call Spain home, especially those clustered around the beautiful Mar Menor, this market is more than just a shopping opportunity. It's a chance to really immerse ourselves in the local culture, to feel that warm, fuzzy sense of community that often gets lost in the hustle and bustle of modern life. It's a chance to feel... Christmassy. And let’s be honest, a little mulled wine never hurt anyone either.

The market itself is nestled at Galerías El Flamenco, a convenient location right on the La Manga strip (kilometre 4, to be precise). Doors open at 9:00 AM, giving you plenty of time to browse the stalls bursting with artisan crafts, unique handmade gifts, and even some pre-loved treasures at the second-hand booths. I always find something unusual there – last year, I scored a vintage Spanish fan that’s become a real conversation starter.

The organizers really go all out to create a family-friendly atmosphere. Think less chaotic shopping mall, more charming village square. It’s the kind of place where you can sip on mulled wine, munch on a freshly made doughnut (or three!), and watch the kids’ faces light up as they participate in the seasonal workshops. I’m already planning my attack strategy for securing the best doughnuts!

Adding a touch of authentic Spanish tradition, a local artisan has crafted a beautiful nativity scene, or "Belén," that will be on display. It’s always impressive to see the intricate detail and artistry that goes into these creations. And of course, there's live music, DJs, performers, and festive characters roaming around, ensuring there's something to keep everyone entertained, regardless of age.

Year after year, this market proves to be a December highlight in the Mar Menor region. It’s a cheerful jumpstart to the Christmas season, a chance to pick up some unique gifts, and, most importantly, an opportunity for the international community to connect with the local culture and experience the genuine warmth of a Spanish Christmas celebration. So, mark your calendars, folks. La Manga is calling, and Christmas is coming early!
