Hepsiburada, a leading e-commerce platform, isn't just selling products; they're investing in the future. Teaming up with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Istanbul Regional Hub and MEXT, they recently wrapped up an intensive program designed to equip young people with the skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of green and digital transformation. Held at the MEXT Technology Center, the "AI, Energy & Supply Chain" training brought together 50 bright minds from across 18 countries for three days of immersive learning.
Hepsiburada's SHOCKING Move: Will it Save Young Pe...
The "Future of Work Academy," as the UNDP initiative is known, aims to prepare young people for the jobs of tomorrow – jobs that will increasingly demand a deep understanding of both digital technologies and sustainable practices. Hepsiburada's Tech Academy stepped up to the plate, crafting a curriculum that dives into sustainability, digital commerce, and cutting-edge technologies. What's particularly noteworthy is their focus on inclusivity, actively working to boost the participation of women and underrepresented groups in the often-intimidating tech world. From my own experience covering similar events, this emphasis on diversity is absolutely critical for fostering true innovation.
This wasn't just a series of lectures, mind you. The program, a collaborative effort between UNDP IRH, UNDP Turkey, and MEXT, prioritized practical application. Participants had the chance to explore futuristic business models and experiment with real-world scenarios, gaining hands-on experience that goes far beyond theoretical knowledge. Hepsiburada even developed specialized modules on digital commerce and entry-level tech roles, giving attendees a comprehensive overview of the technical skills required to succeed. It’s the kind of practical training that many traditional educational paths often lack.
The numbers speak volumes. The inaugural program generated impressive international interest, attracting participants from nearly twenty countries. And perhaps even more encouraging, 72% of those participants were women. This clearly demonstrates a strong demand for these types of skills, particularly among demographics that have historically been excluded from the tech sector. Seeing those kinds of numbers makes you think that maybe the efforts to increase diversity really are starting to make a difference.
Experts from both UNDP Turkey and MEXT led sessions covering crucial topics such as artificial intelligence applications, energy efficiency, smart manufacturing, and supply chain management. Hepsiburada’s own teams shared their real-world experiences in areas like software development, product management, user experience, and data products. Alexey Shevenkov, Hepsiburada’s CTO, rightly pointed out that technology’s transformative power is maximized when combined with a human-centric approach. It's not just about the algorithms; it's about how we use them to improve lives and build a more sustainable future. And based on this initiative, Hepsiburada seems to be putting those words into action.
