Dragon Quest Creator's SHOCKING Final Fantasy 10 Confession!
Gaming News 27 November 2025

Yuji Horii, the legendary creator of the Dragon Quest series, once declared Final Fantasy X to have achieved "ultimate perfection." Yes, you read that right. High praise indeed from a titan of the JRPG world! This little tidbit resurfaced recently, reminding us just how much of an impact Square Enix's tear-jerker adventure had back in 2001.

Now, I'm sure many of us have our own opinions on the "best" Final Fantasy (mine's a toss-up between VI and VII, personally), but Horii's comment is still significant. It showcases the respect that FF X commanded, even amongst its direct competitors. It was a bold move for the series, transitioning to full 3D environments and voice acting, and clearly, it resonated with more than just the fanbase.

Of course, it's worth wondering if Horii still holds the same opinion today. Game development is a constantly evolving art, and his own studio has been busy. Speaking of which, Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake just dropped in late October, and from what I'm hearing, it's a real treat. IGN gave it a solid 9/10, highlighting how beautifully it modernized the classic trilogy while retaining its original charm. So, maybe his definition of "perfection" has shifted a bit since Tidus first graced our screens. Who knows?

In other Final Fantasy news, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director steering the ship on Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3, has been chatting about the upcoming installment. He’s aiming for a "balance" in pacing, apparently, and wants to make the experience "more concise." That's interesting, especially considering the scope of the Remake project. He also reassured fans that nothing is being cut, which is always a concern when beloved source material is being adapted. It sounds like they’re trying to tighten things up, focusing on the core narrative while still delivering a memorable experience. It's a delicate balancing act for sure, but if anyone can pull it off, it's that team.
