Alright, buckle up Stranger Things fans, because Season 5 Vol. 1 has arrived and it's diving deep into the lore! If you're feeling a little lost after the long wait, or maybe you just skipped that rewatch marathon, don't worry, I’ve got you covered. With an 18-month gap between seasons in the show, and a much longer one in reality, it's easy to forget some key details.

Stranger Things 5: The SHOCKING Theory That Change...

Netflix dropped the first four episodes of Season 5, and they're not messing around. This isn’t just a monster-of-the-week scenario; we're talking full-blown mythology exploder. So, let's break down the essentials from past seasons to keep you from feeling like you're stuck in the Upside Down yourself. Consider this your express ticket to understanding what's happening in Hawkins (and beyond).

The season kicks off with a flashback to November 12, 1983, a mere six days after Will Byers vanished. This isn’t just a sentimental moment; it’s a crucial piece of the puzzle. We finally see Will's experience in the Upside Down and, more importantly, the direct connection between his disappearance and Vecna. Remember Will humming “Should I Stay Or Should I Go” by The Clash? It goes way back to Season 1 when Jonathan tries to distract him from their parents arguing – a song that becomes a lifeline when Joyce is looking for a sign. That song is now directly tied to Vecna's influence on Will. This is the most important connection of all.

The flashback goes on to explain how the Demogorgon eventually gets Will. After days of evading the monster, Will is captured and taken to Vecna. This early episode is essential viewing.

Fast forward to present-day Hawkins. Robin, now a local radio host (because of course), fills us in on the aftermath of Season 4. The town is under military quarantine – a detail that adds a whole new layer of tension, and gives Robin a chance to flex her sarcastic wit. "What town on earth can match our very impressive military-to-civilian ratio?" she quips, and honestly, I chuckled. She reminds us that Vecna opened four gates to the Upside Down in Season 4, temporarily covered by metal sheets, using the lives of four people – including Max. Eleven managed to save Max from *dying*, but she's still in a coma. Those gates ripped the town apart and dumped a huge ash cloud overhead. Basically, Hawkins is a mess.

And speaking of messes, there’s still a major gate to the Upside Down smack-dab in the middle of Hawkins, heavily guarded within the Military Access Control Zone, or MAC-Z. Finally, Dustin remains one of the only members associating himself with the Hellfire Club. It's going to be a long season.
