Thanksgiving NFL Bloodbath! Which Team Faces Holiday Heartbreak?!
Sports 27 November 2025

Thanksgiving. Football. It's a tradition as American as apple pie, except maybe more violent. With the 2025 NFL Thanksgiving Day matchups already set, featuring the Packers, Lions, Chiefs, Cowboys, and a couple of other teams we'll get to, it's time to reminisce. What are the defining Turkey Day memories of this century for these six squads? Let's dive in, shall we?

Thanksgiving NFL Bloodbath! Which Team Faces Holid...

It's kind of funny how the Packers and Lions' best Thanksgiving memories since 2000 are intertwined. A bit of a familial rivalry, if you will.

For Green Bay, it's gotta be that 2007 smackdown of Detroit. Sure, the 37-26 final score looks relatively close on paper, but the Packers were in control for most of that game. Brett Favre, slinging it in what turned out to be his final season in Green Bay, was on fire. 381 yards and three touchdowns? Not bad for an old gunslinger. Ryan Grant chipped in with over 100 yards on the ground too. I remember watching that game thinking Favre still had plenty left in the tank - hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

But hold on, Lions fans! Don't despair! Detroit got their revenge in 2013. Aaron Rodgers was sidelined with an injury, and Matthew Stafford and company took full advantage. They absolutely steamrolled Green Bay. A massive 561-126 yardage advantage? Talk about dominance! I distinctly recall that game being a turning point, feeling like the Lions were *finally* ready to challenge the Packers for divisional supremacy. The picture of Calvin Johnson celebrating a TD against the Packers that day says it all (see above). It just oozed confidence.

Let's move on to the Chiefs. They've only graced the Thanksgiving gridiron once this century, back in 2006, in the inaugural Thanksgiving night game. It was a defensive slugfest, a proper old-school AFC West battle. Larry Johnson grinding out 157 yards on 34 carries pretty much sums it up. Not exactly a high-flying Mahomes-esque performance, but a win's a win. Kansas City edged out the Broncos 19-10.

Finally, the Cowboys. Oh boy, where to begin? America's Team and Thanksgiving go hand-in-hand. They've got a treasure trove of memorable moments. From the Tony Romo five-touchdown explosion against Tampa Bay in 2006 to that more recent beatdown of the Commanders a couple of years ago, there's no shortage of highlights. I mean, 45-10? That's the kind of Thanksgiving feast even a Cowboys hater could appreciate... maybe.
