Bears Fans Stunned! Is This the End for Jake Cave?
Current Affairs 27 November 2025

Well, folks, it looks like the Doosan Bears are shaking things up a bit. News broke yesterday that outfielder Jake Cave won't be returning to Seoul for a second season, and let's just say, it's a bit of a surprise. Cave himself announced the news via his Instagram, and you could feel the disappointment radiating off the screen.

Bears Fans Stunned! Is This the End for Jake Cave?

Cave, a fan favorite during his single season with the Bears, posted a solid .299/.351/.463 batting line, smacked 16 homers, and drove in 87 runs. Not bad at all. He was a spark plug, a guy who always seemed to be hustling, whether he was legging out a double or making a diving catch in right field. He even led the entire KBO in innings played in right field – a testament to his dedication and durability. From what I gather, the fans really took to him and his family. Seems like a good guy all around.

But here's the kicker: Cave also mentioned that the Bears are retaining his rights. Now, for those not familiar with the ins and outs of the KBO, this is where it gets a little tricky. Even though they aren't offering him a contract, they’re keeping him from signing with any other team in the league. It's a strategic move, of course, preventing a rival club from scooping up a talented player. Still, you can see why Cave’s a bit bummed. He was hoping to continue his career in Korea, and now his options are limited, at least within the KBO.

“I was hoping to get to play in front of you again but the team had other plans,” Cave wrote, addressing the Bears fans directly. He also added, "Thank you so much for your support all year. You were kind to my family and brought a lot of energy every night for me. Thank you for a fun 2025." It’s clear he appreciated his time there, and that makes this whole situation a little more bittersweet. You hate to see a guy who clearly loves playing the game, and connected with the fans, get caught in the business side of things.

Interestingly, the Bears also outright released American pitcher Col Irvin. However, they are looking to negotiate a new deal with another American pitcher, Zach Logue. So, it seems they're not completely abandoning the idea of having American players on the roster, just making some adjustments. It just goes to show you, in baseball (and in life!), things can change quickly. We'll see where Jake Cave lands next, and best of luck to him – he definitely made an impression during his time in Korea.
