In the wild world of online gaming speculation, things just took a bizarre turn. Remember that Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay "leak" that set the internet ablaze last week? Well, buckle up, because the creator is now saying it was all a hoax, an "experiment" gone viral.
GTA 6 LEAK: Was it REAL? Creator's SHOCKING Claim ...
The admission comes from the individual behind the video, who goes by ZapActu. After a tidal wave of new members flooded the ZapActu GTA6 Discord server seeking the real deal, ZapActu came clean. According to a statement given to IGN, the videos were intended as a social experiment designed to highlight how incredibly easy it's becoming to create AI-generated content that's indistinguishable from reality. Seriously, think about that for a second.
“I wanted to observe people’s reactions and to demonstrate how easy it has become in 2025 to blur the line between reality,” ZapActu apparently stated. The creator apologized to anyone who felt "frustrated, disappointed, or misled" by the whole thing. And just to be clear, they claim this wasn't some elaborate scheme to cash in; they're deleting the posts and shutting down the accounts involved. Seems legit, right?
“My intention was never to harm anyone,” they added, which is always what they say, isn't it? "I simply wanted to create something intriguing that could bring people together and spark discussion within the GTA 6 community. I genuinely never expected a single video to generate such massive engagement and reach." Okay, maybe they really didn't anticipate the explosion. After all, GTA 6 is like the Loch Ness Monster of video games – everyone's obsessed with finding it, or at least a blurry photo of it.
ZapActu even went so far as to send a direct message to IGN, saying, "It was a huge joke actually, I did it just to entertain the community. Sorry for the false hope lol." A joke? Maybe. A sign of things to come? Almost certainly. With the actual release of GTA 6 still a good year away (give or take, because, well, Rockstar), you can bet we’ll be seeing increasingly sophisticated and convincing fake leaks popping up. Just remember to take everything you see with a hefty grain of salt. Maybe even a whole shaker.
