Big news for short documentary filmmakers! Switchboard, the innovative platform that's been making waves by fusing documentary and live-action shorts with in-depth journalism, is launching a grant program to support the creation of new non-fiction stories. This is a fantastic opportunity for emerging and established filmmakers alike.
Filmmakers, Get Ready! NEW Documentary Grant Could...
Founded by Celia Aniskovich, who you might know as the producer of the captivating "Call Me Miss Cleo," Switchboard has quickly become a go-to destination for compelling short-form content. Now, with the establishment of the Switchboard Shorts Grant, they’re putting their money where their mouth is, aiming to bring even more powerful stories to the screen. And let's be honest, the documentary world needs all the support it can get.
The initiative will award a single filmmaker a grant of $2,500 to help finance the production of a brand-new short documentary. While $2,500 might not sound like a fortune, in the world of indie filmmaking, that kind of funding can be a game-changer. It could cover travel expenses, equipment rentals, or even just allow a filmmaker to dedicate the necessary time to their project without worrying about where the next paycheck is coming from. Every little bit helps.
Switchboard has been busy acquiring some truly interesting titles recently. Think "Livestreams with GrandmaPuzzles" – that sounds like something I need to watch immediately! Other notable acquisitions include "Sk8rgls" by Florence Fong, Hope Middleton, and Jean Zamora, "Where There Are No Words" from Gabriella Canal, "Deerwoods Deathtrap" by James P. Gannon, and Kathryn Prescott’s "Gina." It's a diverse and thought-provoking lineup, reflecting Switchboard's commitment to showcasing unique voices and perspectives.
But that's not all. Switchboard is also gearing up for its first-ever Oscar campaign, a huge step for a relatively young platform. They're fielding four titles: "Freeman Vines" by André Robert Lee and Tim Kirkman, "Poreless" by Harris Doran and Akbar Hamid, "Rat Rod" by Jared and Carly Jakins, and "Saving Superman" by Adam Oppenheim and Samuel-Ali Mirpoorian. That's quite an accomplishment, and it speaks volumes about the quality of work they're championing.
According to Celia Aniskovich, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Switchboard, "Independent filmmakers thrive when surrounded by people who believe in their storytelling." She added, "We’re thrilled to be launching this new initiative and grateful to the creative partners who make this work possible and who help strengthen our community with their expertise and generosity." It's refreshing to see a company so dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for independent creators.
For any filmmakers looking to throw their hat in the ring, the application deadline is in February. So, don't delay! Head over to [here] for all the details and application information. Good luck to all the applicants! I'm personally excited to see what incredible stories this grant helps bring to life.
