Culture & Arts 26 November 2025

BASE 2025 has officially wrapped up in Istanbul, leaving a vibrant mark on the Turkish art scene. From November 26th to the 30th, the city pulsed with creativity as BASE, a key platform dedicated to showcasing emerging artists, opened its doors to art lovers and industry professionals alike. I always look forward to BASE – it's a great barometer of where the younger generation of Turkish artists is heading.

BASE 2025 Opens Its Doors: What Shocking Surprises...

This year, a significant aspect of BASE was the continued support from Trendyol Sanat. Irem Poyraz, Director of Corporate Communications at Trendyol Group, eloquently put it: their goal is to "enable young artists to connect their work with wider audiences." That's a mission statement I can definitely get behind. Trendyol Sanat seems to be committed to leveraging technology to make art more accessible, transcending geographical limitations. Their collaboration with BASE feels like a tangible demonstration of that commitment, and it’s great to see corporations actively supporting the arts.

One of the standout features of BASE 2025 was undoubtedly the "Guest Country: A Glimpse into Romanian Contemporary Art" exhibition. Presented with the invaluable support of Trendyol Sanat and curated by Derya Yücel, this special selection brought together a diverse collection of 80 works from 13 young Romanian artists. It was a fascinating cross-section of painting, sculpture, ceramics, installation, photography, and even video-performance. Seeing these different mediums side-by-side really highlighted the breadth of talent coming out of Romania.

The exhibition wasn't just about showcasing art; it was about fostering a genuine intercultural dialogue. It provided a unique opportunity for young creators from both Turkey and Romania to connect and engage with each other's perspectives. The themes explored were incredibly relevant, touching on identity, memory, belonging, and how the digital age is reshaping our perceptions. The works also delved into the complex interplay between personal experiences and collective memory, offering fresh and contemporary interpretations that really resonated with the audience.

Ultimately, with the crucial backing of Trendyol Sanat, BASE 2025 successfully expanded its international reach. It provided crucial visibility for these young artists and further cemented its role as a vital platform for strengthening intercultural exchange within Turkey's dynamic contemporary art ecosystem. Events like these are essential for nurturing creativity and fostering a more connected and vibrant art world. I'm already looking forward to seeing what BASE has in store for us next year.
