Ex-MLB Pitcher's SHOCK Signing! What Does This Mean for the Wiz?!
Current Affairs 26 November 2025

The KT Wiz are making moves, folks, and it looks like they're serious about contending next season. The latest addition? Right-handed pitcher Caleb Boushley, formerly of the Texas Rangers and, briefly, the Tampa Bay Rays. The team announced the signing Wednesday, bringing Boushley to Korea on a one-year deal potentially worth a cool million bucks.

Breaking down the financials, Boushley's contract guarantees him $900,000, a nice chunk of change that includes a signing bonus. He's got the opportunity to tack on an extra $100,000 in incentives based on performance, which is always a good motivator. At 32 years old, Boushley is bringing a bit of experience to the Wiz, and he's clearly hungry to make an impact in the KBO.

Boushley’s journey to the KBO has been a winding one. Drafted by the Padres back in 2017, it took him a while to crack the big leagues. He finally got his shot with the Brewers in 2023, and bounced around a bit, landing with the Twins briefly in 2024 before finding a more substantial role with the Rangers in 2025. While his ERA with Texas wasn’t stellar (6.02 in 25 games), he did get some valuable major league innings under his belt. A late-season waiver claim by the Rays didn't result in any MLB appearances, but he did pitch well for their Triple-A affiliate, the Durham Bulls.

What's interesting about Boushley is his diverse pitch repertoire. According to Baseball Savant, he throws six different pitches: a sinker, four-seam fastball, cutter, changeup, slider, and curveball. That kind of variety can be a real weapon against KBO hitters, and it will be interesting to see how he uses his mix to keep them off balance. Having that many options gives him a lot of flexibility in approaching different hitters and situations.

The Wiz are clearly rebuilding their pitching staff. Boushley joins Matt Sauer, another former MLB arm, in the revamped rotation. They’re replacing Enmanuel De Jesus and Patrick Murphy, their foreign starters from the 2025 season. Plus, they snagged Japanese pitcher Koki Sugimoto to fill their Asian player quota earlier this month. It's a busy offseason for the Wiz, and it looks like they are sparing no expense in their quest to improve their team. They've also been incredibly active in the domestic free agency market, securing the maximum of three free agents, including Korean Series MVP Kim Hyun-soo. This team is making a statement, and Boushley could be a key piece of their puzzle.
