Okay, folks, get ready for something completely out there. Devolver Digital, purveyors of all things wonderfully weird, are dropping *Skate Story* on us, and it's landing on PlayStation Plus day one. Yes, you read that right. A skateboarding demon. Skating to the moon. To *eat* it.
Skate Story Goes to HELL! PS Plus Gets Demonic Day...
Launching December 8th, which is just around the corner, *Skate Story* isn't your average Tony Hawk clone. Forget sunny California beaches and energy drink sponsorships. This is the Underworld, baby. Think ash, smoke, and a whole lot of existential dread, all rendered in a stark, almost ethereal art style. I've been following this one for a while now, and the visuals alone are enough to make you do a double-take. It's mesmerizing, disturbing, and utterly unique.
The brainchild of Sam Eng, the mind behind *Zarvot*, the game throws you into the bony feet of a demon on a seemingly impossible quest. You'll be ollie-ing, kickflipping (presumably with demonic precision), and grinding your way through a landscape of "glass and pain," according to the Steam description. Destroying demons and saving tortured souls are also on the agenda. Sounds like a typical Tuesday, right?
But here's the kicker (pun intended): being available on PS Plus from launch is a *huge* deal. It means a potentially massive audience will get to experience this bizarre masterpiece. It gives the game instant visibility, bypassing the usual struggles indie titles face. And, let's be honest, the premise alone practically screams, "Play me!" It's a bold move by Devolver, and frankly, I’m here for it. The game costs £18 if you purchase it outside of PS Plus.
I'm personally really curious to see how the gameplay feels. Skateboarding games can be notoriously difficult to get right, especially when trying to blend realism with fantastical elements. Can *Skate Story* deliver a satisfying skateboarding experience alongside its surreal narrative? That’s the million-dollar question. But if the trailers are anything to go by, we're in for something truly special. A dark, twisted, and surprisingly elegant skateboarding odyssey that's unlike anything we've seen before. Mark your calendars, folks. December 8th. Prepare to shred... in Hell.
