Activision is throwing down the gauntlet with a massive Season One update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, set to detonate on December 4th. It looks like they're trying to address some initial concerns by cramming the update full of new content across all three core game modes – campaign, multiplayer, and zombies.
Black Ops 7 Skips Campaign?! Giant Mech Battle Cha...
The biggest buzz, at least for me, is the option to completely skip the single-player campaign and jump straight into the Warzone-esque Endgame mode. Now, I understand the original intention was to immerse players in the narrative before throwing them into the post-launch story. But let's be honest, a lot of people just want to shoot stuff and unlock cool weapon skins. So, good on them for listening and giving players the choice.
Endgame itself is shaping up to be suitably chaotic. We're talking new world events, including encounters with a colossal robot – because why not? – and toxin-induced hallucinations. And if that wasn't enough, later in the season we'll be facing off against a VTOL aircraft described as "manifested by fear." Sounds terrifying! New exotic skills are also coming to the mode, and of course, a Christmas-themed event will be bringing some festive cheer to the battlefield towards the end of the year. I'm picturing Santa Claus dropping care packages full of grenades. Maybe I'm just weird.
Multiplayer fans aren't being left out, either. We're getting over six new maps and modes, plus the introduction of the Deadeye Drone scorestreak. But the real kicker for veterans is the integration of 12 returning loadout items from Black Ops 6. This should add a layer of familiar strategy as players grind through the prestige ranks. It’s a smart move, giving people something to work towards while also nodding to the past.
And let's not forget the zombie horde. This update brings a new round-based map, new modes catering to both narrative-driven players and those who just want a pure challenge. Expect returning loadout items and, naturally, a limited-time Christmas event. I'm hoping for zombie elves!
This Season One update is clearly an attempt to inject a serious dose of adrenaline into Black Ops 7. Whether it will be enough to reignite the initial spark remains to be seen. Early data has suggested a slightly lukewarm reception compared to previous entries, with European sales figures trailing behind Battlefield 6 and even underperforming Black Ops 6 in the same region. Still, Activision is clearly committed to supporting the game, and this content drop is a major step in the right direction. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a giant robot to go fight.
