Trump's SHOCKING Move: Muslim Brotherhood Targeted! What Happens Next?!
Current Affairs 25 November 2025

US President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order to begin the process of declaring certain branches of the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations, specifically naming chapters in Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan. This is a move that's been rumored for a while now, and it's sure to stir up some serious controversy.

Trump's SHOCKING Move: Muslim Brotherhood Targeted...

The order alleges these branches "engage in or facilitate and support violence and destabilisation campaigns" that harm their regions, US citizens, and US interests. A bold claim, and one that will undoubtedly be scrutinized closely.

"President Trump is confronting the Muslim Brotherhood’s transnational network, which fuels terrorism and destabilisation campaigns against US interests and allies in the Middle East," the White House stated. This administration hasn't shied away from making strong pronouncements on national security, and this is certainly no exception.

The Muslim Brotherhood, a pan-Islamist movement founded in Egypt in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna, advocated for a return to Islamic principles as a means to resist Western influence. Over the years, their ideology has taken different forms and had varying levels of success, sparking debates about their true intentions.

A US "terrorist" designation empowers Washington to freeze any assets the group may hold within the country and bar members from entering the United States. This is a significant tool in the US foreign policy arsenal, and it's not used lightly.

The Muslim Brotherhood is already outlawed in several countries, including Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Jordan outlawed the group in April, accusing it of weapons manufacturing and storage, and plotting to destabilize the kingdom. Despite a 2020 court ruling ordering its dissolution, the group remains popular in Jordan and continues to operate. In Egypt, the Muslim Brotherhood has been banned since 2013, following the military's removal of its leader, then-President Mohamed Morsi. Morsi’s removal, of course, was a pivotal moment in Egyptian history that continues to have repercussions today.

This decision by the Trump administration is likely to be met with strong reactions, both positive and negative, across the Middle East and beyond. Critics will argue that such a broad designation could inadvertently target legitimate political activities and stifle dissent. Supporters, on the other hand, will argue that it's a necessary step to combat extremism and protect US interests. Only time will tell how this plays out in the complex and ever-shifting political landscape of the region.
