So, remember when celebrity chef Paik Jong-won, the guy behind Theborn Korea, swore off television to focus on his business? Well, scratch that. In a rather curious move, Paik has quietly made private a YouTube video where he basically promised a hiatus from broadcasting, and it's got everyone talking. Why now? Well, it just so happens he's popping up on TV screens again.
Chef Paik's SHOCK U-Turn! Did He Break His Promise...
The video, titled "I will start again from the beginning," was uploaded back in May. I remember watching it myself, thinking it was a pretty definitive statement. Paik essentially said he was done with the whole TV thing (except for ongoing projects), wanting to pour all his energy into Theborn Korea as a businessman, not a celebrity chef. It was quite the pronouncement. But poof! Gone now, or at least hidden from public view.
The timing is definitely interesting. Back then, Theborn Korea was catching some serious flak. Remember the whole "Baekham gift set" pricing controversy? And then there were those allegations about farmland law violations and origin-labeling errors. Not a good look. So, the hiatus was presented as a way for Paik to get his house in order, to stabilize the company. It made sense at the time.
But fast forward to November 17th, and boom! Paik is back on MBC with a brand-new variety program. Apparently, it was supposed to launch way back in April, but scheduling conflicts pushed it back. And that's not all. He's also judging season two of Netflix’s "Culinary Class Wars," which drops December 16th. Suddenly, that whole "hiatus" thing seems a little...well, less like a hiatus and more like a brief vacation.
Naturally, the internet is buzzing. Is this the end of the "businessman Paik" and the triumphant return of "celebrity chef Paik"? It certainly looks that way. Removing the video only adds fuel to the fire. It's hard not to see it as a deliberate attempt to erase the promise of a broadcasting break, paving the way for a full-fledged comeback. A little shady? Maybe. Effective? Definitely getting people talking.
Theborn Korea, for its part, is spinning this as a YouTube channel revamp. They say they're reorganizing Paik's channel to deliver "richer content." Okay, sure. While I appreciate the attempt at damage control, let's be real. The timing is just too perfect. Whether it's a calculated career move or a simple change of heart, Paik Jong-won's return to the small screen is official, and that old YouTube pledge? Well, it's conveniently disappeared.
