Big Ten SHOCKWAVE! Is Ohio State's Reign Coming to an End?!

Big Ten SHOCKWAVE! Is Ohio State's Reign Coming to an End?!
Sports 24 November 2025

Big Ten football, folks! It's getting down to the wire, and the latest power rankings from FOX Sports' Michael Cohen are definitely stirring the pot. Ohio State, predictably, remains perched at the top, but the real story is the ascent of Michigan and the absolutely brutal plummet of USC. Talk about contrasting fortunes!

Big Ten SHOCKWAVE! Is Ohio State's Reign Coming to...

USC, oh USC. What a season it's been for Lincoln Riley and his squad. Once a playoff hopeful, they're now officially out of the running after that loss to Oregon. Ouch. It was their second conference loss, and third overall. The Ducks, meanwhile, are looking pretty darn good and inching closer to that coveted playoff spot. Riley's probably feeling the heat right about now, and honestly, you can't blame him.

So, who's still in the hunt for a national championship? Well, Cohen's rankings point to four Big Ten teams: Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon, and Michigan. Michigan's path, as everyone knows, runs directly through Columbus. "The Game" against Ohio State is shaping up to be an absolute barnburner. This Saturday at noon ET on FOX – you know where I'll be!

Down in West Lafayette, Purdue's first-year head coach Barry Odom is facing a massive challenge. He needs to somehow engineer an upset against No. 2 Indiana on Friday night. A loss would mean a second straight winless conference season for the Boilermakers, something they haven't seen since the early 20th century! Last year's 66-0 drubbing by Indiana has gotta be fresh in their minds, so they'll be looking for some serious revenge.

Maryland's upset bid against Michigan fell apart in the second half. They were only down 11 at halftime, but the defense just couldn't hold. Three straight touchdowns for Michigan? That's a recipe for disaster. Despite a vote of confidence and extension through 2026 from the AD, it looks like back-to-back losing seasons for head coach Mike Locksley. A real shame, considering their recent bowl game success.

Rutgers managed to keep things respectable against Ohio State for a half, trailing by only 11. But, as has been the story all year, their defense eventually crumbled. Even with Ohio State missing some key receivers, the Scarlet Knights couldn't contain them. Four straight touchdown drives in the third and fourth quarters sealed their fate. Now, they need a win against Penn State to reach bowl eligibility. It's a tall order, but stranger things have happened.

Finally, let's talk Wisconsin. Luke Fickell seems to have found something that works: old-school, smashmouth football. They ran for over 200 yards against a ranked opponent, leaning heavily on the ground game with Darrion Dupree having a monster game. Who would have thought that Wisconsin's first 100-yard rusher of the season would emerge in late November? Gotta love college football!
