'Sinners' Dominates Critics Choice! 13 Nominations - What's the Secret?!
Movies & TV Series 24 November 2025

The Critics Choice Association (CCA) is shaking things up! For the first time ever, they've released shortlists for the below-the-line categories ahead of the full nominations for the 31st Annual Critics Choice Awards. This is a big deal, shining a spotlight on the often-overlooked, but absolutely crucial, work of the craftspeople who bring these films to life. We're talking casting directors, cinematographers, costume designers, editors, and everyone in between. It's about time they got some extra recognition!

'Sinners' Dominates Critics Choice! 13 Nominations...

The shortlists cover eleven categories in total, ranging from Best Casting and Ensemble to Best Visual Effects. Each category features twelve shortlisted achievements, and these were curated by a special Below-the-Line (BTL) Nominating Committee within the CCA. They really had their work cut out for them, considering the sheer volume of films released each year. But it's a thorough process, and it ensures that the best of the best get a chance to be recognized. It's worth noting that "Sinners" is leading the pack with a whopping 13 mentions across these categories. Clearly, that film has made a splash with the critics, at least in terms of technical achievement.

What's really interesting is the inclusion of a write-in option this year. Recognizing that some films might not have been readily available for viewing before the initial deadline, the CCA is allowing write-in votes for films accessible by December 3rd. This specifically includes "Avatar: Fire And Ash," which begins screenings on December 1st. Smart move, CCA! It shows a willingness to be flexible and inclusive, ensuring that no deserving film is overlooked due to timing issues. I remember how frustrating it was a few years ago when a smaller indie film missed out on several awards because screeners weren't available in time. This change will hopefully prevent similar situations in the future.

So, mark your calendars! The full nominations for the 31st Critics Choice Awards will be announced on December 5, 2025, at 9:00 AM PT. And the awards ceremony itself, which is the first nationally televised awards show of the season (a big deal for getting early buzz), will air on E! and USA Network on Sunday, January 4, 2026. It's going to be a fascinating race, and with these shortlists now out, we have a much better sense of which films are in contention for those all-important nominations. It will be interesting to see if "Sinners" can maintain its lead when the final nominations are revealed. Stay tuned!
