College Football Rankings SHOCKER! Is OSU REALLY Still #1?!
Sports 24 November 2025

Joel Klatt has dropped his latest college football rankings just in time for Rivalry Week, and while some things remain constant, there's plenty of movement and insightful analysis to chew on. As always, Klatt doesn't shy away from the tough questions, especially with the College Football Playoff picture becoming clearer (and more contentious) by the week.

College Football Rankings SHOCKER! Is OSU REALLY S...

Ohio State remains perched atop Klatt's rankings, but the elephant in the room – or rather, the Wolverine in Ann Arbor – is impossible to ignore. As Klatt pointedly notes, not a single Buckeye currently on the roster has experienced the sweet taste of victory against Michigan. Conversely, none of the current Wolverines have known defeat at the hands of their archrivals. That's a *massive* psychological edge heading into what's shaping up to be an all-time classic on Big Noon Saturday. This year, it really feels like everything is on the line.

Klatt also dove deep into other key matchups and performances from the past week. He highlighted Miami's dominant road win against Virginia Tech, praising quarterback Carson Beck's efficiency (320 yards and 4 TDs with just 5 incompletions? Wow!). The defense also stepped up with a strong pass rush. But, and this is a big but, Klatt expressed concerns about their run defense, which surrendered a concerning 235 sack-adjusted rushing yards to the Hokies. That kind of inconsistency could be a playoff killer.

Despite three straight convincing wins, Klatt isn't ready to crown Miami as a playoff contender just yet. He believes they still lag behind Notre Dame, a team they'll inevitably be compared to when CFP committee members are filling out their brackets. “They're too far right now from Notre Dame in the rankings — in my rankings and in the rankings in the CFP,” Klatt stated, and I tend to agree. They need to demonstrate more consistency against tougher opponents.

Michigan, meanwhile, appears to be hitting its stride at precisely the right moment. Their 45-20 road victory over Maryland was their highest point total in a Big Ten game this season. What's even more impressive is that they achieved this even with injuries impacting their running back depth. Klatt emphasized the continued improvement, balance, and valuable experience being gained by the younger Wolverines. This team is rounding into form, and that should scare the daylights out of Ohio State.

Beyond the Big Ten, Klatt also gave props to BYU for their statement road win against Cincinnati. LJ Martin absolutely *dominated* on the ground, racking up 222 rushing yards, and BYU controlled possession for a whopping 39 minutes. Klatt praised head coach Kalani Sitake's program for its toughness and fundamental soundness. Sometimes, old-school football still works! Finally, Klatt held steady with Alabama at No. 10 after their predictably lopsided victory over Eastern Illinois.
