Amazon's Medical Drama: Boneta Siblings' TV Empire Takes Shape!

Amazon is diving headfirst into the world of medical dramas, and they're doing it with a little help from some familiar faces. Word just dropped that Amazon MGM Studios is on board to produce an untitled medical series spearheaded by none other than Diego and Natalia Boneta, who are executive producing through their production company, Three Amigos. It’s an interesting move, and definitely signals Amazon's continued push into Spanish-language premium content.

The show itself is the brainchild of Caro Rivera and José Miguel Núñez, and from what I’m hearing, it’s going to have some serious star power behind the camera. Fernando Sariñana and Fernando Sariñana Jr. are also slated to executive produce, with Amazon Mexico lending its support to the production. That's a pretty stacked team, and it suggests Amazon is really serious about making this project a success.

Details about the plot are being kept under wraps tighter than a surgical bandage, but the early buzz is that we're looking at a sort of "Grey's Anatomy" meets "ER" vibe. That’s a pretty ambitious goal, to say the least. What really sets it apart, though, is the setting: the bustling, vibrant metropolis of Mexico City. I think that's a fantastic twist, and one that could really lend a unique flavor to a genre that sometimes feels a little…stale. A fresh locale can breathe new life into well-worn tropes, and Mexico City is certainly brimming with stories to tell.

This project is clearly a big deal for the Bonetas and their Three Amigos production banner. They've been steadily building their slate since [date missing] – it would be nice to know when they launched the company, just saying! – and this Amazon deal seems to solidify their place as key players in the streaming landscape. The renewal of their overall agreement with Amazon is a pretty strong indicator that the studio sees them as a valuable asset, especially when it comes to attracting and engaging Spanish-speaking audiences.

Beyond this medical drama, Three Amigos is also busy with other high-profile projects. They recently premiered "Killing Castro," a film starring Diego as Fidel Castro himself, at the Toronto Film Festival. That's certainly a project that grabs attention. And if that wasn't enough, Diego also recently published "The Undoing," a novel through Amazon Publishing. Apparently, it was a hit, snagging Best Audiobook honors from Audible Español in 2025. Talk about a multi-hyphenate! With representation from UTA and Brillstein Entertainment, it's clear Diego is poised for continued success, and Three Amigos seems to be right there with him.
