This Best Books List Really Has Something for Everyone

Beyond Bestsellers! The Book List You NEED to See ...

Okay, folks, holiday shopping season is officially upon us, and if you're anything like me, that means frantically searching for the perfect gifts. If you're in the market for a book, then fear not, because the good folks at NPR have unleashed their annual "Books We Love" list, and it's a behemoth. Forget curated top tens, this thing is a celebration of "more is more."

Clocking in at over 380 titles, the NPR list feels less like a "best of" and more like a literary cornucopia. What makes it truly awesome, though, is the sheer level of customization. You can filter by genre, recipient ("history buffs," "art lovers," etc.), even staff picks. Feeling ambitious? Dive into the "seriously great writing" category. Need a quick read for a short commute? They've got you covered. Looking for something that'll keep you occupied for weeks? Yep, they have that too. I actually spent a good hour just playing around with the filters, and I already added a few titles to my own wishlist.

And the best part? This isn't a one-off. The 2025 selections join a collection dating back to 2013. That's over 4,000 books to explore! Honestly, if you can't find *something* for someone on your list (or even yourself) within that vast selection, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe gift them a gift certificate to a bookstore and call it a day?

But wait, there's more! Amanda Litman, founder of Run for Something, has also thrown her hat in the ring with a list of 34 books perfect for devouring before the year ends. And her categories are *chef's kiss* -- everything from "romance novels (hot)" to "just good fiction!" Speaking personally, I highly recommend *Heart the Lover* and *The Ten Year Affair*. They’re absolute page-turners ideal for surviving a long flight, or maybe escaping some, shall we say, *spirited* family gatherings.

Finally, a shout-out to Solange Knowles, who since 2021, has been running the Saint Heron Library, offering free 45-day loans of rare and unique books by Black and brown authors. It started with 50 books and now boasts over 2,150! The fact that anyone in the US can borrow these titles, some of which would be incredibly valuable to collectors, is frankly, an act of radical generosity. Knowles’ motivation, as she told *The New York Times*, is to make these works accessible to communities who would greatly benefit from them. Here's hoping her initiative continues to thrive and inspire others.
