ISTANBUL – In a press conference held earlier today, Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu addressed the ongoing betting investigation that has been sending ripples through the world of Turkish football. Facing a barrage of speculation and controversy, Hacıosmanoğlu sought to clarify the process and defend the integrity of the investigation.
Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu BETTING Scandal! Did He Just...
“We embarked on this sacred mission,” Hacıosmanoğlu declared, framing the investigation as a turning point. “To leave a clean Turkish football for our children and youth.” He acknowledged the potential for harm to clubs and individuals, but emphasized the importance of the mission, stating he and his colleagues were not clinging to their positions, but rather driven by a responsibility to future generations. It's a bold statement, especially in a sport often plagued by corruption allegations.
The President expressed his frustration with the rampant speculation surrounding the investigation, particularly concerning how sensitive data was being handled. "We are listening to the statements of authorized and unauthorized, knowledgeable and uninformed people," he lamented. "How is this data obtained? Where does it come from? There is talk of 'manipulation'. I will explain how meticulous and fair we are being. Such discussions do not benefit this process." He firmly denied any leaks, emphasizing that even the Legal Affairs Manager was only informed shortly before referrals were made.
Hacıosmanoğlu then detailed the data's journey, tracing it from the Ministry of Sports, through the Spor Toto Organization (which licenses betting companies), and ultimately to the TFF. "We officially apply to our Ministry of Sports for this information, and the ministry sends it to us through the Spor Toto Organization... Are you giving information to the institution you are licensed to by manipulating it? Is that possible!" he exclaimed, underscoring the safeguards in place. He seemed particularly incensed by suggestions of data manipulation, seeing them as attacks on the investigation's legitimacy.
Addressing concerns about potential victims of false accusations, Hacıosmanoğlu outlined the legal recourse available to those implicated. "We receive information from the state, to the Legal Board. If there is reasonable suspicion, the Legal Board has to bring it to the judiciary. If it doesn't, it commits a crime," he explained. He emphasized the multi-layered process, from the Professional Football Disciplinary Board (PFDK) to the Court of Arbitration for Sports, providing avenues for appeal and demonstrating innocence. "We have no intention of victimizing anyone. We are responsible for the honor and dignity of the entire football family. Whoever is innocent will prove their innocence," he concluded, seemingly trying to reassure a nervous football community. Whether his words will be enough to quell the anxieties remains to be seen, but it's clear Hacıosmanoğlu is trying to project an image of fairness and transparency in a complex and potentially explosive situation.
