Well, it's always a little bittersweet when you see familiar faces departing from your TV screen. This past Saturday, that was exactly the feeling as Dana Jacobson and Michelle Miller signed off for the last time as co-hosts of "CBS Saturday Morning." It was a genuinely emotional farewell, marking the end of a pretty significant era for the weekend news program.
CBS Saturday Morning: Beloved Hosts' SHOCKING Good...
Miller, looking a little choked up but composed, addressed viewers directly: "After seven long years of welcoming you to the weekend, our time here is coming to a close." She held Jacobson's hand as she spoke, a simple gesture that spoke volumes about their partnership and friendship. "CBS Saturday Morning will still be here with the latest news and all the stories you expect from CBS News. We wish our colleagues the best." It was a classy and professional send-off, no doubt.
Jacobson chimed in, adding a touch of realism to the situation. "While it wasn't our choice to leave, we did have one in how we get to say goodbye, including a chance to say thank you to the amazing producers, photographers, audio engineers, editors, makeup and hair stylists, assistants and floor crew and wardrobe — everybody who is a part of each and every story we told. Without them, there is no us." It was a good reminder that television is a collaborative effort, and the people behind the scenes often make the difference.
Miller's reflection on her career journey was particularly touching. She recalled arriving in New York City 22 years ago, "with no job, no prospects, just a gritty reporter with a network of colleagues who gave me a shot." It's stories like these that make you appreciate the dedication and hard work it takes to succeed in a competitive industry. I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling of taking a leap of faith and hoping for the best.
The co-anchors wrapped things up with a symbolic clinking of champagne glasses – a small celebration of their time together, perhaps? – and a final shoutout to key people like executive producer Brian Applegate, senior broadcast producer Tony DiPolvere, and former host Anthony Mason. It was a fitting way to acknowledge the team that helped them put on the show week after week.
As reported last month, this shake-up is part of a broader series of layoffs impacting CBS News under Paramount's umbrella. Change is inevitable in the media landscape, I suppose. The weekday "CBS Mornings" team will now be overseeing the Saturday broadcast, so it'll be interesting to see how the program evolves. It's always a little sad to see good talent leaving a show, but I wish Jacobson and Miller the best of luck in their future endeavors. They certainly left their mark on "CBS Saturday Morning."
