Okay, buckle up, magic fans! It looks like the Horsemen are back in the saddle – all of them. Ruben Fleischer, the director behind the upcoming *Now You See Me: Now You Don't*, is spilling the beans (well, some of them) about the return of Isla Fisher to the franchise. And frankly, I'm pretty stoked.
'Now You See Me' Director SHOCKS Fans! Isla Fisher...
Fisher, of course, was notably absent from the 2016 sequel, and her presence was definitely missed. But fear not, folks, Henley Reeves is back, and Fleischer is clearly pleased to have her. "They’re both incredible actors and both so funny and so talented," he said, referring to both Fisher and Lizzy Caplan, whose surprise cameo is apparently another treat in store for us. I always thought Caplan was a great addition, so getting both of them? Sounds like a winning hand to me.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. The film apparently tackles the somewhat… glaring lack of prominent female magicians in the world of illusion. They are even planting the seeds for a potential "Horsewomen" spin-off, with Ariana Greenblatt's character, June, potentially leading the charge. Fleischer notes that the film calls out the male-dominated magic world. "It really just kind of calls out the sort of male-dominated magic world, but also I think it gives them power and that they have a relationship independent of the Horsemen, which no one else was expecting,” he said. This would be quite a step forward, and I'm hoping they deliver on the promise.
The film gives a pretty meta explanation for Henley's absence in the previous installment. Her character explains that she left to start a family, triggered by Atlas's (Jesse Eisenberg) less-than-romantic proposal that she participate in a dangerous escape trick that posed a risk to a potential pregnancy. In a move that feels both fitting and a little wink-wink, this mirrors Fisher's actual real-life absence due to her own pregnancy at the time. Clever, right?
But wait, there's more! It seems like *Now You See Me: Now You Don't* is a full-blown family reunion for the entire ensemble. Not only do we have Fisher and Caplan back in the mix, but Mark Ruffalo's Dylan Rhodes is apparently making a cameo. And the Horsemen aren’t just four anymore. By the end of the film, with the addition of three new magicians, the team expands to a formidable eight. Eight Horsemen (and Horsewomen?) running around pulling off elaborate heists? I’m already reaching for my popcorn.
Of course, as always, we'll be keeping a close eye on Deadline Hollywood and other outlets to make sure you stay up-to-date on all the latest movie news. Just remember to keep those comments civil, folks! And maybe practice your card tricks while you wait. You never know when you might need to join the Horsemen... or Horsewomen.
