Oregon's roaring back! The latest AP Top 25 college football poll is out, and the Ducks have soared back into the top five, landing at No. 5. It's their highest ranking since way back in early October, and frankly, it's well-deserved after that dominant performance against USC. It feels like they're hitting their stride at just the right time.
College Football Shakeup! Oregon Soars, ACC Braces...
While Oregon's resurgence is grabbing headlines, the poll also highlights the strength of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), with five teams finding themselves ranked. It’s the second time this season the conference has boasted that many ranked squads, proving they're a force to be reckoned with.
At the very top, things remain largely unchanged. Ohio State, Indiana, and Texas A&M are still sitting pretty in the top three spots, holding onto their positions for the sixth consecutive week. Georgia's hanging tough at No. 4, keeping the pressure on. Ohio State is the undisputed king for now, snagging 58 first-place votes and leading Indiana by a healthy margin.
Miami (Fla.) really made a statement with their road win over Virginia Tech. The Hurricanes jumped up and now lead the ACC contingent at No. 13. Virginia also saw a bump, climbing two spots to No. 17. The ACC is shaping up to be a battleground this year, and it'll be interesting to see how these teams jockey for position as the season progresses.
Not everyone had good news this week. Georgia Tech took a tumble, dropping eight spots to No. 23 after a tough home loss to Pitt. Speaking of Pitt, despite having three losses, they're right on the Yellow Jackets' heels. It just goes to show how unpredictable college football can be; one week you're riding high, the next you're licking your wounds.
We also saw SMU make a return to the poll, landing at No. 25 for the first time since early September. That's got to feel good for the Mustangs. In the Group of 5 conversation, James Madison from the Sun Belt Conference is still the highest-ranked team at No. 20. North Texas of the American Conference isn't far behind at No. 21, just ahead of Tulane. Remember, Tulane was the only Group of 5 team recognized by the CFP selection committee last week, holding the No. 24 spot. It's a reminder that these teams are still in the hunt and could potentially shake things up in the playoff picture.
