Well, folks, it's that time of year again. The Game Awards 2025 nominations are out, and the internet is buzzing. We've got a stellar lineup this year, haven't we? Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (yes, still weird title), Donkey Kong Bananza... it feels like everyone's got something to celebrate. What a year for games!
Game Awards 2025: Shocking Snubs That Will Make Ga...
Big hitters like Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2, and the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong (finally!) are rightfully in the running for Game of the Year. And hats off to Expedition 33 for snagging a record-breaking 12 nominations! That's a serious achievement. I'm genuinely excited to see who takes home the top prize. But, as always, there are a few titles that I feel like are getting a bit of a short shrift this year.
That's right, it's time for the "snubs" conversation. While I love seeing the big games get their due, I think there are some deserving titles that should've had a bigger presence at the awards. Maybe I'm just being a contrarian, but these are games I felt deserved more love.
First up, we have *The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy*. This game got absolutely zero nominations. Zero! Personally, I feel like it was a huge oversight. Coming from the minds behind Danganronpa and Zero Escape, this game blends visual novel storytelling with tactical gameplay in a way that genuinely surprised me. It should have at least been nominated for Best Game Direction and Best Narrative, at the very least. The game just pulls you into a deeper world you just can't put down.
Next, *South of Midnight*. Okay, so it got two nominations (Innovation in Accessibility and Games for Impact), which is great, but I think it was robbed in the audio department. The soundtrack and sound design are phenomenal, using music and oral storytelling to create a truly immersive experience. Best Score and Music, Best Audio Design - it deserved both! Seriously, the music alone is worth the price of admission. I couldn't get enough of listening to it when I first played.
Finally, and this might be controversial, *Silent Hill F*. Two nominations for Best Narrative and Best Audio Design are decent, but for many, this was their favorite horror game of the year. After years of silence (pun intended), Konami delivered a truly remarkable addition to the Silent Hill franchise. I genuinely believe it deserved a Game of the Year nomination, as well as nods for Best Game Direction and Best Art Direction. And Konatsu Kato's performance? Unforgettable. It's a shame to see it overlooked in those categories.
These are just my opinions, of course, and there are plenty of other great games nominated. But these snubs just stuck out to me. What do you all think? Any games you feel were overlooked?
