Well, folks, Apple's done it again. Just when you thought they'd cornered the market on overpriced adapters and dongles, they've dropped something new that's sure to raise some eyebrows – and maybe lighten your wallet by about 3,000 Turkish Lira. That’s right, approximately $95 USD – for a phone grip.
3,000 TL Phone Holder?! You Won't Believe What It ...
The tech giant has just released a new phone grip, designed by artist and industrial designer Bailey Hikawa. This isn't your run-of-the-mill, dollar-store phone pop socket. Oh no. This is a meticulously crafted, ergonomically designed "work of art" that also happens to hold your phone. I have to admit, the design is pretty slick, in a minimalist, "LA art scene" kind of way.
The grip attaches magnetically to the back of your iPhone using MagSafe, allowing for both vertical and horizontal usage. So, whether you’re scrolling through Instagram or binge-watching your favorite shows, this thing promises to keep your precious device secure. And when you’re not using it? Apparently, it transforms your phone into a miniature sculpture. I guess that's one way to justify the price tag.
But here's the thing that actually impressed me about this whole venture: Apple claims they focused heavily on accessibility during the design process. They say they worked directly with users who have limited muscle strength and hand control to make the grip easier to grasp, control, and hold. That’s actually really cool. It's nice to see a company, even one as notoriously profit-driven as Apple, considering users with physical limitations. It certainly sounds like they put some genuine thought into making the design functional for a wider range of people.
The ergonomic structure also promises comfortable use in the hand, which, let's be honest, is important when you're spending hours glued to your screen. Still, 3,000 TL is a steep price to pay for comfort. I mean, you could buy a decent used phone for that kind of money. Is it worth it? That’s for you to decide. But hey, at least now you can hold your phone like a sophisticated art aficionado... while simultaneously checking your TikTok feed. And perhaps most importantly, the development process here seems thoughtful.
