Ubisoft Shocker: Tencent Deal Still On?! Investors Stunned!
Gaming News 21 November 2025

So, last week Ubisoft threw us a curveball with a surprise delay to their financial report. Naturally, that sent a few ripples through the gaming community and the financial world alike. Anytime a big company like Ubisoft shifts gears like that, people get curious, and sometimes a little worried. But fear not, gamers, because Ubisoft has now come forward to reassure everyone that their deal with Tencent – that massive €1.16 billion investment – is still, as they put it, "on track."

Ubisoft Shocker: Tencent Deal Still On?! Investors...

Specifically, the statement refers to Tencent acquiring a minority stake in Ubisoft’s new subsidiary, Vantage Studios. Now, Vantage Studios is a pretty big deal. Think of it as Ubisoft's powerhouse, housing some of their biggest hitters: Far Cry, Rainbow Six Siege, and, of course, Assassin's Creed. The company is calling this a "pivotal milestone in Ubisoft's transformation," which, honestly, feels like corporate speak for "we're betting big on this." And they are. It’s essentially putting all their eggs in one well-managed basket. It's a bold move, let's see if it pays off.

Leading this new venture are two co-CEOs: Christophe Derennes and, notably, Charlie Guillemot – son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. Now, whether you see that as shrewd succession planning or just plain old nepotism is up for debate, but there's no denying that family ties run deep in Ubisoft’s history. It's going to be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out in Vantage Studios. Either way, it is what it is, and we will see how he does at his job.

Beyond the Tencent deal, the financial report (albeit delayed, but eventually released) does have some good news for Ubisoft. Net bookings are up a solid 20 percent year-on-year for the first half of their financial year. They're crediting this to the "strong performance" of the Assassin's Creed franchise, including the upcoming Shadows title. Rainbow Six Siege also remains a cash cow, although Ubisoft admitted the move to free access did cause "a temporary surge in cheating," which is never a good look, but at least they are acknowledging the problem. We all know online gaming is riddled with hackers, but at least they are on it.

Finally, Ubisoft confirmed that their last major release for 2025 will be Assassin's Creed Shadows on... wait for it... the Switch 2. Yep, that’s right, the unannounced Nintendo console gets another shout-out, and this one comes with a firm release date: December 2nd. This is very interesting given that Nintendo hasn't even officially announced a Switch 2. Someone at Ubisoft is definitely dropping some hints, and maybe getting in trouble with Nintendo's PR team in the process, but hey, who am I to say?
