Get ready to rev your engines and roll the dice, folks! Seismic Squirrel has just dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer for their upcoming narrative RPG, "Aether & Iron," and it looks like a seriously stylish trip to an alternate 1930s New York. Think gangsters, flying cars, and a whole lotta intrigue. Set for release on PC in 2026, this one's definitely going on my radar.

Aether & Iron Trailer: 1930s Gangsters & Flying Ca...

The game casts you as Gia, a smuggler navigating a vertical metropolis powered by "aether," a newly discovered substance that makes anti-gravity tech possible. It's a cool concept, a really neat blend of classic noir vibes with a dash of futuristic steam-punk, or maybe "aether-punk" is a better term? Whatever you call it, it's visually striking, and the trailer really shows off that unique atmosphere.

So, what's the gameplay like? Well, from the trailer, it seems like a healthy mix of narrative-driven choices, skill-based interactions, and turn-based vehicular combat. You'll be building your crew, upgrading your character's skills (like "Hustle," "Smarts," and "Brass" – love those names!), and trying to unravel a conspiracy that threatens the entire city. And all this while driving and upgrading the wheels you need to survive!

And speaking of combat, the car battles look particularly interesting. It's not just about shooting – you'll need to strategically use the environment to your advantage. The trailer shows off ramming opponents into traffic, which sounds chaotic and fun. Gotta love a game that rewards a bit of reckless driving, right?

What really caught my eye is the pedigree of the writing team. We're talking folks with credits on Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Sovereign Syndicate. That's a serious roster of talent, so I'm expecting a compelling story with well-developed characters and meaningful choices. The kind of choices that actually impact the world around you, not just give you a different colored ending screen. It sounds like your actions as Gia will shape the future of this strange and dangerous city.

Key features also include recruiting a crew, turn-based vehicular combat, and diving into an underground life where choices matter, so there is a lot to keep you busy. All in all, "Aether & Iron" looks like a promising addition to the RPG landscape. I'm definitely adding it to my Steam wishlist, and you probably should too. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one as we get closer to that 2026 release!
