Hold onto your hats, rom-com fans! Prime Video Italy is cooking up something special, and it's got all the ingredients for a delightful escape: sunshine, romance, and a healthy dose of Italian charm. The project, titled 'Blame It On Rome,' is currently filming in the heart of the Eternal City.

The English-language film boasts a seriously impressive cast, headlined by the magnetic Michele Morrone of '365 Days' fame and the always-radiant Gabrielle Union, a veteran of hits like 'Bad Boys II'. Morrone seems to be becoming a regular for Amazon, having recently starred in Paul Feig's 'Another Simple Favor' sequel. Seeing Union embrace more comedic roles in recent years has been a joy, too.
Behind the camera, things are equally exciting. Italian filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini, known for his work on 'Supersex,' is directing, bringing his distinct visual style to the project. The screenplay is a collaboration between Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith, the mastermind behind 'Legally Blonde,' and Jessica O'Toole of 'Jane the Virgin' fame. Those two collaborating on a rom-com? Sign me up! This pairing suggests a smart, funny, and heartfelt story – hopefully, something a little bit different than your standard fare.
And the talent doesn't stop there. Oscar nominee Massimo Cantini Parrini is in charge of costume design – expect some seriously stylish outfits. David di Donatello winner Vladan Radovic is handling cinematography, guaranteeing some stunning visuals of Rome. And Giuliano Pannuti, a Nastro d’Argento Award nominee, is crafting the film's production design. This film is bringing out the big guns, it seems.
So, what's the story? Union plays Billie, an ambitious New York art executive whose life takes an unexpected turn in Rome. After a disastrous engagement and a lost job, Billie decides to embrace the "dolce vita." Cue the aperitivos, adventures, and dating escapades! But, plot twist: she discovers she's pregnant and has no idea who the father is. Enter Tommaso, a private investigator played by Michele Morrone, who she hires to solve the paternity puzzle. You can already feel the friction, right? But you know what they say, opposites attract!
As Billie and Tommaso navigate the romantic backdrop of Rome, their initial dislike slowly melts into something deeper. The synopsis promises an emotional journey as they confront their fears and open themselves up to the possibility of new love. Sure, it sounds formulaic but with that cast and crew, I think it has the potential to be something special. I'm personally looking forward to seeing how Carrozzini brings Rome to life and how Morrone and Union play off each other. ‘Blame It On Rome’ is definitely one to watch for when it eventually hits Prime Video.
