Tesla, fresh off some impressive sales figures in the region, has just dropped a bombshell: the price of the highly anticipated "cheap Tesla," – the Model Y Standard – has been revealed for the Turkish market.

For those not in the know, the Model Y Standard, or SR (Standard Range), is a stripped-down version of Tesla's popular SUV, aimed at a more budget-conscious consumer. It sacrifices some of the bells and whistles found on the higher-end models in exchange for a lower price point. This move, of course, means the previous Model Y SR, already on sale in Turkey, has been discontinued. I must say, it's a smart play by Tesla to broaden their reach and make electric mobility accessible to a wider demographic.

So, how much will this “cheap Tesla” set you back in Turkey? The Model Y Standard (rear-wheel drive) is priced at 2,349,300 TL. Compare that to the Model Y Premium (Long Range all-wheel drive) at 3,998,400 TL and the Model Y Performance (all-wheel drive) at a hefty 4,418,400 TL, and you can see the considerable price difference. That's nearly a 50% jump between the Standard and Performance trims! It really underscores the level of customization and features available for those willing to pay a premium.

Now, let's talk about those "trimmed features." What exactly are you giving up to save some lira? Well, the Model Y Standard loses the 8-inch rear screen, downgrades from a 15-speaker sound system to a 7-speaker setup, and swaps the panoramic glass roof for a closed one. Electrically folding heated rear seats and a HEPA filter are also absent. Moreover, the suspension system has been tweaked, opting for passive shock absorbers instead of the more sophisticated setups found in the higher trims. Depending on your priorities, these omissions may or may not be a deal-breaker. For me, the lack of the glass roof would be a significant downgrade, but the price difference might just make it worthwhile for some.
