Hold on to your hats, folks, because Moana is making waves again! The trailer for the live-action "Moana" remake just dropped, and the internet has officially lost its collective mind. We're talking a staggering 182 million views in its first 24 hours. Let me repeat that: 182. Million. Views.

Moana's Tsunami! Trailer CRUSHES Records - Lion Ki...

Now, I've been around long enough to see a few viral trailers, and this one is definitely something special. Disney's been teasing us with a bunch of 2026 trailers, and apparently, "Moana" is riding high in those rankings. To put it in perspective, it's the second most-viewed trailer for a Disney live-action flick, only falling behind the behemoth that was "The Lion King" teaser, which snagged 225 million views back in 2019. Still, second place is nothing to sneeze at, especially in today's crowded media landscape. I mean, attention spans are shorter than ever, so to grab that many eyeballs in a single day? Huge.

Considering the online buzz, Disney is probably already popping champagne corks. Word on the street is that this "Moana" remake is poised to be a major box office hit when it sails into theaters on July 10, 2026. Sentiment seems overwhelmingly positive, with folks particularly excited about seeing Maui and Moana back on the big screen. And let's be honest, those visuals are stunning. From the sweeping ocean shots to the lush tropical island landscapes, the trailer is a feast for the eyes. It is ranking third behind "Fantastic Four: First Family (202M views) and The Devil Wears Prada 2 (185M Views).

The live-action "Moana" is helmed by Thomas Kail, the Tony Award-winning director of "Hamilton," which already gives it a certain pedigree. Newcomer Catherine Laga’aia is stepping into the title role, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is back as the demigod Maui, which is honestly perfect casting. The story, as we know, follows Moana as she answers the ocean's call and embarks on a quest with Maui to restore prosperity to her people. And yes, the adorable (and slightly intimidating) Kakamora are also making an appearance.

Let's not forget the impressive legacy of the original animated "Moana." It grossed over $643 million worldwide, and the sequel, "Moana 2," raked in a whopping $1.059 billion last year. The franchise is a cash cow and the first movie has been watched 1.4 billion hours on Disney+. The live-action movie is Produced by Johnson, Beau Flynn, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia and Lin-Manuel Miranda. With that kind of track record, it's no wonder Disney is betting big on this live-action adaptation. Personally, I'm excited to see how they bring this beloved story to life in a whole new way. Will it live up to the hype? Only time will tell, but one thing's for sure: "Moana" is definitely making a splash.
