Porsche Unleashes Electric Cayenne: Is it Worth the Wait? (Spoiler Alert: Probably)

Porsche’s been teasing us with their electric ambitions for a while now. We've seen the Taycan, and the Macan Electric is just around the corner. But, let's be honest, some folks were starting to wonder if they'd lost a little steam. Turns out, they were just saving up their energy for this: The all-new, all-electric Porsche Cayenne. And folks, it's a beast.

Electric Porsche Cayenne: The Wait is Over, and Wo...

Dubbed the most powerful Porsche *ever*, the Cayenne Electric is coming in two flavors: the standard Cayenne Electric and, of course, the bonkers Cayenne Turbo Electric. The "base" model is nothing to scoff at, pushing out 408 hp and 835 Nm of torque, peaking at 435 hp with launch control. Plenty to get the groceries home in a hurry.

But let's talk about the Turbo

But let's talk about the Turbo. This thing is just…silly. Under normal driving, it delivers a healthy 857 hp. But engage launch control, and you’re staring down the barrel of 1,156 hp and 1,500 Nm of torque. That's hypercar territory. 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.5 seconds? 0-200 km/h (0-124 mph) in 7.4 seconds? Seriously? It's enough to make you giggle.

Porsche isn’t just throwing power at the problem, though. They’ve clearly thought about how to manage all that oomph. A 600 kW regenerative braking system recovers a *lot* of energy, with Porsche claiming that nearly 97% of everyday braking will be handled by the electric motors. If you're feeling sporty, ceramic composite brakes are available as an option.

Beyond the raw power, Porsche is promising a familiar, engaging driving experience. Both models come standard with Porsche's Active Suspension Management system, and Turbo models get Torque Vectoring Plus. Active rear axle steering and Porsche's Active Ride systems are available as options – and you probably want them. Active Ride, already seen on the Taycan and Panamera, uses clever suspension tech to actively counteract body roll, nose dive, and squat. Think of it as anti-nausea medicine for your passengers when you decide to channel your inner race car driver.

Powering this electric SUV is a

Powering this electric SUV is a 113 kWh battery pack, built around an 800-volt architecture. This allows for DC fast charging up to 400 kW, meaning a 10-80% charge takes a mere 16 minutes at compatible stations. Porsche is projecting a WLTP range of 642/623 km (around 400 miles). The kicker? Wireless charging is an option. You just park over a charging pad in your garage, and it tops up at 11 kW. Nice.

Visually, the Cayenne Electric borrows some cues from the Macan Electric, with a rounded rear and more dynamic front end compared to the standard Cayenne. It's a handsome machine, no doubt.

So, is it worth the wait? On paper, the Cayenne Electric looks like a home run. It combines Porsche’s legendary performance with the benefits of electrification. Now, we just need to get behind the wheel and see if it lives up to the hype. But based on what we're seeing, Porsche is back in the electric game with a vengeance.
