The Princess immersed herself in the world of aerial combat, starting with a close-up view of a Typhoon aircraft. The highlight of her visit was undoubtedly her experience in the Typhoon Future Synthetic Training facility, a state-of-the-art site offering integrated training environments for pilots. Taking the controls of a flight simulator, the Princess even managed a loop-the-loop on her first attempt, prompting Station Commander Group Captain Paul O’Grady to jokingly suggest she might need to qualify and fly a Typhoon for real.
Beyond the technology and hardware, Princess
Beyond the technology and hardware, Princess Kate focused on the human element of RAF Coningsby. She spent time in "The Lounge," a communal space, meeting members of the base's Welfare Team. ASI Dan Field remarked on her genuine curiosity and interest in their work, highlighting her ability to connect with people on a personal level.
The Princess's warmth extended to the local families gathered at the base. While enjoying refreshments, she received three cuddly plane toys for her children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Her response revealed her understanding of the importance of community and family within the military, acknowledging her children would be disappointed to have missed seeing a Typhoon.
The sentiment echoed throughout the base, with numerous personnel describing the Princess as "very down to earth." Rebecca Benjamin, 26, expressed surprise at how approachable and genuine she found the senior royal. The Princess even made a new four-legged friend during her visit.
For the occasion, the Princess opted
For the occasion, the Princess opted for a familiar and stylish ensemble. She donned her Bella Freud suit, featuring the classic Prince of Wales pattern in a wool and linen blend. This particular suit, comprised of the Earl Jacket and Schoolboy Trousers (both now sold out), was previously seen during engagements showcasing British textiles. Underneath, she paired the suit with an Alexander McQueen rib-knit long-sleeve sweater in grey melange, a piece first worn during Holocaust Memorial Day in 2021.
Princess Kate's visit, which extended 90 minutes beyond the planned schedule, left a positive and memorable impact on RAF Coningsby. Her genuine interest in the lives of the personnel, combined with her approachable demeanor, solidified her connection with the base and its community. It's clear the Princess of Wales has made some new friends in Lincolnshire.
