Kevin Spacey Headlines Sci-Fi Thriller 'The Tenth Planet' Currently on Sale at AFM
Kevin Spacey's Secret Sci-Fi Mission: 'The Tenth P...
Kevin Spacey is continuing his return to the film industry with a leading role in the sci-fi thriller, "The Tenth Planet – The Red Sister." The film, which has already wrapped production in the UK, is currently being offered for sale at the American Film Market (AFM). This marks another significant step in Spacey's attempt to reintegrate into Hollywood after a period of relative absence.
The film boasts a strong supporting cast including Ben Miles ("The Crown"), Joe Anderson ("The Last Front"), and Antonia Campbell-Hughes ("It Is in Us All"), alongside newcomers Serrana Su-Ling Bliss and Lily Curley. Notably, Mark Foligno, executive producer of the Oscar-winning "The King's Speech" and producer of "Moon," is also on board as a producer.
A Cosmic Mystery Unfolds Across Time
"The Tenth Planet" weaves a narrative across two distinct timelines. 12,800 years ago, a young girl named Anna witnesses a mysterious red planet looming behind the moon, triggering ancient rituals and celestial alignments. In the present day, as humanity faces global pandemics and unrest, psychologist Dr. David Harper (Spacey) works to help 16-year-old Anna Collins, whose extraordinary visions may hold the key to saving humanity.
The official synopsis reveals that Anna and Dr. Harper are pursued by the "dark forces of Planet X," led by the malevolent Cullen (Miles). Ex-MI5 agent Greaves (Anderson) must help Harper navigate a treacherous landscape of deception, spiritual awakening, and cosmic peril.
Production Details and Director's Vision
Directed by Matthew Philip Cannon from a screenplay by Greg Daniels, Gareth Pritchard, and Paul Gerstenberger, "The Tenth Planet" was filmed on location in Snowdonia, Wales, as well as Leicestershire and Birmingham in England. In addition to Foligno, Jo Stanhope and Glen Kirby serve as producers, with Michael Ryan as executive producer.
Director Cannon describes the film as "a fusion of ancient myth and modern science, a story that explores what enlightenment means in an age of chaos, loss, and rediscovery. It’s both a human drama and a cosmic mystery.” Producer Mark Foligno echoes this sentiment, stating, "This film combines scale, intelligence, and deep emotion. With Matt’s vision and this incredible cast, we’re creating an elevated sci-fi experience with real human depth, the kind of story that resonates with audiences worldwide.”
While a sales company has yet to be attached, the filmmakers are currently handling sales at AFM. Spacey's other upcoming projects include the thriller "The Awakening" and "Holiguards," which he also directed.
