Jared Padalecki and Anna Fricke Team Up for Medical Drama at CBS
CBS Bets Big on Padalecki & Fricke's Heart-Stoppin...
CBS is bolstering its drama lineup with a new medical drama project spearheaded by "Walker" star Jared Padalecki and executive producer Anna Fricke. The network has given the untitled project a development room order, signaling a strong commitment to exploring its potential. This marks a reunion for Padalecki and Fricke, who previously collaborated on the CW's "Walker" and its prequel series, "Walker: Independence."
Development Room Order Signals Strong Interest
The development room order signifies that CBS is seriously considering the medical drama for its future programming. Unlike traditional broadcast buying windows, CBS has shifted to a year-round development cycle, allowing for more in-depth exploration of potential series. This approach often involves assembling a writers' room to flesh out the concept, develop characters, and craft compelling storylines before a pilot is even ordered. The Padalecki/Fricke project joins other CBS dramas in development, including "Watson," and aims to complement established hits like "Matlock."
Project Details and Production Team
The medical drama is being produced by CBS Studios, where Fricke has an overall deal and Padalecki holds a first-look pact. Fricke and Laura Terry will executive produce through Fricke's Pursued by a Bear production company, alongside Padalecki. Genevieve Padalecki is also producing. Dan Spilo, Padalecki's former manager, is no longer involved in the project.
Future Seasons and Padalecki's Involvement
While the project is gaining momentum, it's still unclear whether it will target the 2026-27 or 2027-28 television season. Padalecki recently had a recurring role on CBS/CBS Studios' "Fire Country," with initial discussions about a potential spin-off series centered around his character. However, those plans have not progressed, and there are currently no plans for him to return to "Fire Country" this season.
Padalecki's commitment to "Walker" and "Walker: Independence," where he not only starred but also served as an executive producer, demonstrates his dedication to storytelling. Partnering with Fricke, who developed "Walker" and co-developed "Walker: Independence," further strengthens the project's potential. Fricke's extensive television credits also include "4400," "Valor," and "Wayward Pines," highlighting her experience in creating and running successful series. The collaboration between Padalecki and Fricke promises a fresh and engaging take on the medical drama genre for CBS.
