Gaming visionary Hideo Kojima is taking his critically acclaimed "Death Stranding" universe to a new medium. In a surprise announcement at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Kojima Productions revealed "Death Stranding Isolations," an original anime series slated to premiere on Disney+ in 2027. This marks Kojima's first partnership with a global streaming platform, promising a fresh perspective on the post-apocalyptic world that captivated gamers worldwide.

A New Chapter in the Stranding

"Death Stranding Isolations" will follow a young man and woman embarking on a new adventure within the established lore. Unlike the photorealistic graphics of the game, the anime will be rendered in a traditional hand-drawn 2D animation style. This stylistic choice aims to capture the spirit and ideas of the original game with a unique visual flair.

E&H Production Takes the Reins

The animation is being spearheaded by E&H Production, a relatively new Japanese animation studio founded in 2021 by Sunghoo Park, formerly of MAPPA. E&H has already garnered attention for its work on series like "Ninja Kamui," "Red Cat Ramen," and "Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation," demonstrating their ability to deliver high-quality and visually striking animation. Takayuki Sano, also of E&H Production, will serve as the series director.

Unveiling the Narrative

The official synopsis paints a picture of a world ravaged by the "Death Stranding," a cataclysmic event that blurred the lines between the living and the dead, isolating humanity and shattering civilization. The anime will explore themes of connection, isolation, and the struggle for survival.

Beyond Sam Bridges

While Sam Bridges, the protagonist of the original game, sought to reconnect America, "Death Stranding Isolations" will focus on different characters grappling with their own forms of isolation in North America. The synopsis introduces intriguing figures: an old man seeking salvation outside of connection, a female warrior embracing constant conflict, a boy harboring a grudge against Bridges, and a girl embracing loneliness. These characters suggest a multi-faceted narrative exploring the diverse ways individuals cope with the fractured world.

The concept art by Ilya Kuvshinov, known for his character designs in "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045," further hints at the anime's aesthetic and thematic direction. With a blend of Kojima's unique vision, E&H Production's animation expertise, and a compelling narrative, "Death Stranding Isolations" promises to be a noteworthy addition to the "Death Stranding" universe and a highly anticipated anime series on Disney+.
