Brace yourselves, gamers! As May kicks off, and a rather unwelcome freeze warning descends upon Minnesota (seriously, Mother Nature, what gives?), there's no better excuse to stay indoors and dive headfirst into some fresh digital worlds. Before we get to the recommendations, let’s quickly recap some of the week's bigger headlines: we finally got our first look at the new Resident Evil movie (courtesy of a weapons director, no less!), a Berlin-based Vampire: The Masquerade visual novel is on the horizon, and buzz is building around the Returnal successor, Saros. Lots to chew on!
Level Up Your Weekend: 5 Must-Play Games You Can't...
But what to play *this* weekend? Well, two titles are really grabbing the attention: *Saros* and *Invincible VS*. Let’s break them down.
First up, *Saros*. Our very own Kyle Hilliard is practically addicted. He's racked up over 76 hours and is just a couple trophies away from Platinum! He’s so engrossed, that despite having already written our review around the 40-hour mark, he just can't seem to put it down. That says a lot, because usually after finishing a review, we're all about jumping to the next big thing. The man's driven by the burning need to complete every progress bar and max out that skill tree, and honestly, I get it. The game just has that hook. Kyle's urging even those intimidated by rogue-lites, or who found *Returnal* too punishing, to give *Saros* a shot. It’s challenging, sure, but apparently more manageable than its predecessor, offering a reachable ending even if you stumble initially. And if you're struggling, we've got tips and an interview with the developers to help you out. Bold statement alert: Kyle’s even calling it a front-runner for Game of the Year. High praise indeed!
Then there's *Invincible VS*. Think *Marvel vs. Capcom* or *Injustice*, but with the gritty, brutal charm of the *Invincible* universe. Matt Miller says Quarter Up has crafted a tag-team fighting system that's surprisingly deep and rewarding. Apparently, it captures the characters and tone of the comic perfectly. It's intense, challenging, and nuanced, but you can tweak the difficulty if you just want some over-the-top action. In a genre that can sometimes feel stagnant, *Invincible VS* sounds like a genuinely refreshing and impressive entry. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fighting game fan (and especially if you're an *Invincible* fan!).
One more quick shout-out: Matt also highlights *Far Far West*, an early access title that pits you and your friends against undead cowboy robots. Think *Deep Rock Galactic* or *Helldivers*, but with a wonderfully weird Western twist. You'll be riding flying trains, blasting skeletons on mechanical horses, and customizing your own robot cowboys. Evil Raptor seems to be onto something here. And finally, Wesley LeBlanc is still diving into *Vampire Crawlers*, a dungeon crawler that’s hooked him with its fast-paced combat and on-the-fly deck building. So, there you have it – a packed weekend of gaming potential. Stay warm, and happy playing!
