Yesterday saw a selling-focused trend on the Borsa Istanbul, with the BIST 100 index closing the day down 1.81% at 14,329.34 points. So, today's initial bump is a welcome change. The index opened today 92.30 points higher than yesterday's close, translating to that 0.64% increase we mentioned.

Breaking it down further, the banking index is up 0.73%, while the holding index gained 0.44%. Among the sector indices, financial leasing and factoring are leading the charge with a 3.79% increase. On the other hand, the forestry, paper, and printing sector is lagging behind, down 0.74%. It's always interesting to see which sectors are driving the market’s movements.

Globally, markets are showing a mixed picture. This is partly due to stalled negotiations related to tensions in the Middle East and also weakness in tech stocks. It seems like those geopolitical uncertainties aren't fading anytime soon, and coupled with rising oil prices, this is keeping a lid on risk appetite in global markets.

Adding to the mix, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) is scheduled to announce its monetary policy decision today. Naturally, this has investors on the edge of their seats. While the market almost universally expects the Fed to hold its policy rate steady in the 3.50-3.75% range, all eyes and ears will be on the policy statement and Fed Chairman Jerome Powell's comments for clues about the future direction of monetary policy. That's where the real signals are usually hidden.

Analysts point out that today's domestic economic calendar includes the economic confidence index and the unemployment rate. Internationally, we'll be watching inflation data from Germany and consumer confidence figures from the Eurozone. As for technical levels on the BIST 100 index, analysts see resistance at 14,500 and 14,600 points, and support at 14,300 and 14,200 points. So, keep an eye on those levels throughout the day. The market is likely to remain sensitive to both domestic and international developments.
