Well, folks, the parrot is officially out of the cage. After what felt like an eternity of whispers, leaks, and enough "accidental" social media teases to fill a treasure chest, Ubisoft has finally confirmed what everyone already knew: Assassin's Creed Black Flag is getting a full-blown remake. They’re calling it "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced." Colour me unsurprised.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced REVEALED! Wha...
Seriously, the hints have been piling up for ages. Remember that rogue "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced" listing on the PEGI website back in December? And who could forget the leaked Edward Kenway collectible figurine that surfaced just last month? Even Ubisoft's own YouTube channel got in on the act with a brief burst of Black Flag sea shanties. At this point, it was less a secret and more of a poorly kept pirate's map left out in the rain.
Now, while the Black Flag news is undoubtedly the headline grabber, Ubisoft did offer updates on other projects brewing in their digital docks. It sounds like Assassin's Creed Shadows, the feudal Japan-set adventure, is nearing the end of its voyage. Ubisoft says it's entering its "final phase of support," meaning we can expect smaller, less frequent updates moving forward. Time to start looking forward, it seems.
Speaking of looking forward, Assassin's Creed Hexe, the "darker, narrative-driven" experience set in 16th century Europe, is still chugging along over at Ubisoft Montreal. Initially slated for a 2026 release, Ubisoft is wisely giving the team more time to polish their vision. After all, nobody wants a rushed and buggy mess. A delay is often a good sign. Fingers crossed that pays off here.
And for those craving some multiplayer mayhem, Codename Invictus, a "PvP multiplayer Assassin's Creed experience" helmed by the For Honor veterans at Ubisoft Montreal, is also on the horizon. Ubisoft is promising to involve the community early in development, which is a smart move. Hopefully, that means we’ll get a genuinely engaging and balanced experience, not just another cash grab.
But wait, there's more! News on the live-action Assassin's Creed series over at Netflix is apparently coming "very soon." Keep your eyes peeled, Templars and Assassins. Finally, and perhaps most immediately exciting for some, Assassin's Creed Unity is getting a free patch on March 5th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, boosting the framerate to a silky smooth 60fps. It’s not the high-seas adventure we're all craving, but it might just tide us over until Black Flag Resynced finally sets sail. In the meantime, I might just reinstall Unity, it has been a while.
