Michigan State's March Madness Surge! Big Ten Bubble Teams on the Brink?!

Michigan State's March Madness Surge! Big Ten Bubble Teams on the Brink?!
Sports 04 March 2026

Okay, folks, buckle up, because March Madness is practically breathing down our necks! And that means one thing: bracketology is officially in full swing. Fox Sports' Mike DeCourcy just dropped his updated NCAA Men's Tournament projections, and the Big Ten is looking like a total rollercoaster.

Michigan State's March Madness Surge! Big Ten Bubb...

DeCourcy's forecast is basically screaming "parity!" at the top of its lungs. We've got a few dominant teams, sure, but then there's this massive logjam of squads desperately clawing their way towards an at-large bid. And leading the charge of the upwardly mobile? None other than Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans. They've been on a tear, racking up four straight wins and jumping from a No. 4 seed all the way up to a No. 2. That's a serious statement. They've got Rutgers at home and that always-heated rivalry game against Michigan on the road to close out the regular season, so they definitely control their own destiny here.

Poor Purdue, though. Remember when they looked invincible? Well, gravity happens. Matt Painter's Boilermakers have stumbled, losing three of their last four, including a really rough one against Ohio State. That kind of skid can really hurt your seeding, and DeCourcy has them dropping to a No. 4 seed. It just goes to show, you can't cruise to the finish line in this sport.

Speaking of Ohio State, they've managed to sneak into the "Last Four In," which is a testament to how volatile the bubble is this year. Meanwhile, Indiana, who I personally thought were a lock a few weeks ago, are now on the outside looking in as one of the "First Four Out" after their loss to Michigan State. Ouch. And let's not forget about USC, who are imploding spectacularly with five straight losses and the whole Chad Baker-Mazara situation. They've plummeted to the "Next Four Out." College basketball, man, it's brutal.

So, who's barely hanging on right now, according to DeCourcy? New Mexico, Ohio State, Santa Clara, and VCU are the last four teams currently projected in. And those first four on the wrong side of the cut line? That would be Indiana, Auburn, Cal, and Virginia Tech. A lot can change in a week and a half, folks.

Conference breakdown? The SEC is dominating with a projected 10 tournament teams. The Big Ten is right behind them with nine. Then you've got the ACC and Big 12 tied at eight. The Big East and West Coast conferences have three apiece, while the Mountain West and A-10 each have two. It's going to be a wild ride to Selection Sunday. Get your brackets ready because this year, more than ever, it feels like anything can happen.
