Alright, gamers, gather 'round, because there's some hilarious shenanigans going on in the PlayStation world. People are apparently so hyped for GTA 6 that they're faking having played it already. Yes, you read that right.
GTA 6 Already?! PlayStation Gamers Stun the World ...
It seems some crafty players have discovered a glitch that lets them add "Grand Theft Auto VI" to their "Recently Played" list, even though the game isn't due out until November. It's like bragging about winning the lottery before you've even bought a ticket, but hey, who am I to judge enthusiasm?
The trickery was first highlighted by the X/Twitter account @videotechuk_, which showcased how this digital sleight of hand works. Apparently, it involves exploiting some loophole in the PlayStation Network. One particular PSN profile, "Ousora1," is even brazenly showing off their "GTA 6" play history. Look, I get the hype, believe me, but at least try to be a little subtle, right?
Now, before you go thinking these folks are actually getting early access to the game – calm down. The presence of "GTA 6" on the list doesn't mean they've actually fired up the game and cruised around Vice City (or whatever location they're going with this time). It's purely a cosmetic thing, a digital flex. But that hasn't stopped the masses from trying to replicate the glitch. I'm sure PlayStation's developers are having a field day trying to patch this one up. It's almost admirable, this commitment to faking it 'til you make it, or in this case, 'til you can actually play it.
Interestingly, PlayStation isn't the only platform with this kind of "feature." Word on the street is a similar exploit has been kicking around on the Xbox store for a while. Apparently, you can "install" the game to your Xbox Series X via the mobile app (even though it's not actually available) and then try to launch it from the dashboard. Voila! "GTA 6" appears as your last played game. Talk about dedication!
Beyond the glitchiness, one thing's for sure: the buzz around GTA 6 is deafening. The price point, in particular, is causing quite the stir. Rumors are swirling that it could cost as much as $100. While Rockstar is keeping tight-lipped, you can bet the cost will be a major talking point the second pre-orders become available. Prepare for the internet to explode.
And for those of you worried about a digital-only release, Rockstar CEO Strauss Zelnick has put those rumors to bed. He told Variety that there are no plans to ditch the physical release, despite rumblings about a potential delay to 2027. So, rest assured, you'll be able to get your hands on a physical copy... eventually. Until then, maybe resist the urge to fake your playtime. Just a suggestion.
