Who would have thought a Concert film double feature of Twenty One Pilots and Elvis Presley would set the specialty box office ablaze? This weekend proved to be a surprising smash hit for concert films, with Twenty One Pilots: More Than We Ever Imagined – Live in Mexico City and EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert snagging the No. 4 and 5 spots respectively. Talk about a blast from the past and a jolt to the present!

Twenty One Pilots, distributed by Trafalgar Releasing, are clearly connecting with audiences. Their Concert film is off to an impressive start, raking in a cool $3.7 million. It's a testament to their dedicated fanbase, built brick by brick since their formation back in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio. The band's evolution is a cool story, with frontman Joseph being the constant and Dun joining in 2011 after the original lineup shifted. You can check out the trailer to get a sense of the energy, if you're curious.
But the weekend's success wasn't just about the rock gods. A24's "Pillion," starring Alexander Skarsgard and Harry Melling, continues to impress. It's estimated to have pulled in another $700,000 as it expanded to 357 screens, bringing its total gross to a solid $2.5 million. Seems like strong performances and a compelling story are still a winning formula. And let's not forget Roadside Attractions' release of the 2026 Oscar Nominated Shorts, which is also holding its own with $643,000 on 321 screens in its second week, pushing its total to $2.1 million. Who says short films can't draw a crowd?
Well Go USA Entertainment’s “Blades Of The Guardians” is projected to gross $230,000 on 83 screens in its second week, aiming for a cumulative total of $1.2 million, while Focus Features’ “Midwinter Break,” directed by Polly Findlay and starring Lesley Manville and Ciarán Hinds, earned an estimated $200,000 at 808 theaters, also in its second frame, for a $913,000 cume. It's a crowded market out there, and these films are carving out their own niches.
Greenwich Entertainment debuted Michel Franco’s latest collaboration with Jessica Chastain, "Dreams," at 188 theaters, grossing $95,000. Word on the street is that it was a top performer at NYC’s Angelika Film Center – good news for the indie crowd! It's always interesting to see which films resonate in specific markets.
And for a little bit of niche fun, Comedy For Worse from Brainstorm Media opened to $10,900 on just two screens. Apparently, those two screens featured sold-out Q&A sessions with Amy Landecker and Bradley Whitford at the Quad in New York and Laemmle Royal in Los Angeles. It'll be at The Music Box in Chicago next week, so if you're in the area and looking for something a little different, you might want to check it out. All in all, a very interesting weekend at the box office!
