In the early hours of this morning, a wave of anxiety washed over the local Music scene here on the Costa del Sol. A theft targeting the Bergquist family, beloved blues musicians known throughout Fuengirola, Benalmadena, and beyond, has left them and other musicians reeling and without the tools of their trade.
Costa del Sol Musicians SILENCED! Instruments Stol...
Band members Bobby and Ben Bergquist discovered their van had been broken into in the Tivoli area. The thieves made off with a haul of essential equipment, the kind that’s the lifeblood of any working musician. We’re talking a Gretsch guitar, a Fender Stratocaster (everyone loves a good Strat, right?), an Ampeg bass amp cabinet and head, and a particularly distinctive Fender Blues Junior amp. This Blues Junior had been modified with a custom tube swap, making it easily identifiable, so keep an eye out for that one.
But the list doesn’t end there. Also taken were two Behringer 15″ active speakers, a black 3/4 double bass – apparently bearing the scars of previously removed stickers, and a Mackie Pro FX12 mixing desk. Ouch. That’s a serious hit to any musician's ability to perform and, more importantly, earn a living.
The Bergquist brothers, along with their fellow bandmates, are more than just musicians to this community. They're a fixture. For years, they’ve been delivering high-energy blues, boogie, and jump rhythms, and supporting other upcoming musicians. I've personally seen them play numerous times at charity events, always donating their time and talent. They’re the kind of guys who’d give you the shirt off their back, and now they’re facing a situation that threatens their ability to even put food on the table.
This equipment isn’t just stuff to them; it's their livelihood. It's what allows them to bring joy to audiences across the Costa del Sol and support their families. The local Music community, and anyone who appreciates live music, needs to rally around them. If you see any of this equipment for sale, or hear anything suspicious, please contact the local authorities. Let’s get their gear back and get them back on stage where they belong.
Remember to keep an eye out – that custom tube swap on the Fender Blues Junior is a key identifier. Let’s spread the word and make it too hot for these thieves to handle. Let's get some justice for the Bergquists and the other musicians affected by this deplorable act.
