The possibility arose after Shakhtar's coach, the well-known Arda Turan, publicly expressed his desire to host their second-leg tie against Lech Poznan at Göztepe's Gürsel Aksel Stadium in Izmir, citing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine as the reason for wanting to avoid playing in Poland.

Turan's words resonated deeply. "Due to the war, we play our matches in Poland. I don't want to play against Poznan in Poland," he stated. "If Göztepe allows, we would like to play our second leg at Gürsel Aksel Stadium. I believe the Turkish people will also support us. I don't want to play against a Polish team in Poland." And Göztepe, it seems, are more than willing to oblige. Göztepe Honorary President Mehmet Sepil responded with open arms, signaling the club's readiness to welcome Shakhtar and Arda Turan. Sepil did, however, add a crucial caveat: UEFA's approval is paramount. "Of course, UEFA's permission is required first," he clarified. "Arda Turan is a football figure we all love. He also loves Göztepe and our fans very much. He is someone who sings our anthem. As Göztepe, we would be happy to host him here." This is completely understandable; any such arrangement would need the green light from the governing body.
