Ryan Gosling, the man who brought Ken to life (and nearly stole the show in *Barbie*, let's be honest), has been famously picky about his roles. He's carved out a career on interesting, often challenging projects, and conspicuously avoided the lure of the never-ending franchise... until now, apparently.
Ryan Gosling's SHOCKING Star Wars Confession! You ...
In a move that’s sent ripples of excitement through the galaxy (far, far away, that is), Gosling has signed on for Shawn Levy’s *Star Wars: Starfighter*, slated for a May 2027 theatrical release. That's a long wait, I know, but good things come to those who wait, right?
Gosling himself says these kinds of long-term commitments "never felt right" before *Starfighter*. Considering the sheer volume of franchises vying for A-list talent these days, that's a pretty telling statement. What makes this *Star Wars* installment so different? Well, according to him, it's all about the story and the director.
“It’s such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling explained, praising the film’s “so much heart and adventure." He also made sure to emphasize his confidence in director Shawn Levy, calling him “the most perfect filmmaker for this particular story.” That's high praise, and suggests Gosling really believes in the project.
*Starfighter* is a standalone film, set five years after the events of *The Rise of Skywalker*. That's a smart move, in my opinion. It allows for fresh narratives without completely disrupting established canon. Jonathan Tropper penned the script, and the cast list is impressive, featuring names like Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, Flynn Gray, and even Amy Adams. Talk about a powerhouse ensemble!
Now, Gosling has dipped his toes into pre-existing worlds before, starring alongside Harrison Ford in *Blade Runner 2049*. However, he’s never reprised a role. The *Star Wars* universe, of course, is a sprawling tapestry of interconnected characters and storylines. Given the way Lucasfilm loves to weave familiar faces back into the mix, it's certainly possible we could see Gosling return to this galaxy at some point. It really all depends on how *Starfighter* is received.
One thing's for sure: this is a major win for Lucasfilm and a fascinating turn for Gosling. It seems *Star Wars* has finally found a story that resonates with one of Hollywood's most discerning leading men. Only time will tell if it lives up to the hype, but the anticipation is already building.
