The "We Were Here" series, that darling of Cooperative gaming that either forges unbreakable bonds or shatters friendships, depending on your communication skills, just dropped a new trailer at IGN Fan Fest 2026. And it looks like things are about to get a whole lot weirder (in a good way!). Forget crumbling castles; "We Were Here Tomorrow" is taking us to a raygun retrofuturistic facility called Norcek.
New 'We Were Here Tomorrow' Trailer SHOCKS Fans! W...
For those unfamiliar, the "We Were Here" games are all about two players, separated, relying solely on their wits and walkie-talkies to solve increasingly intricate puzzles. You’ve got your Explorer, the hands-on type fiddling with gears and gizmos, and your Librarian, who deciphers cryptic clues from a distance. It's a recipe for either triumphant collaboration or hilariously frustrating miscommunication. Honestly, watching someone else play is almost as much fun as playing yourself.
The shift in setting is a pretty big deal. According to Martín Mittner, creative director at Total Mayhem Games, "We Were Here Tomorrow" isn't just a reskin. "It's a story that has some familiar characters and some totally new ones, and we've also done a lot with giving you new tools for puzzle solving and moving through the environment." And crucially, he added, they've been working on making those walkie-talkies more immersive, aiming to keep you in the game and *off* Discord. Smart move. Nothing kills the tension like alt-tabbing to explain something for the fifth time.
I'm personally excited about this new direction. The castle setting, while atmospheric, was starting to feel a *little* well-trodden. A retrofuturistic facility opens up a whole new range of possibilities for puzzle design and storytelling. Think creepy robots, illogical technology, and maybe even some Cold War paranoia thrown in for good measure. The trailer certainly hinted at a darker, more unsettling vibe, which is definitely welcome.
So, when can we dive into this new co-op nightmare... I mean, adventure? "We Were Here Tomorrow" is slated to release on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. If you’re already sold (and honestly, if you’ve played the previous games, you probably are), you can add it to your Steam Wishlist right now. I know I just did.
This is just a taste of what IGN's Fan Fest 2026 has to offer, by the way. Keep an eye on the schedule for more announcements and reveals from the world of gaming and entertainment. It's shaping up to be a pretty exciting year!
