Liberal MP Sukh Dhaliwal has launched a blistering attack on a senior government official's assertion that India has ceased its alleged campaign of foreign interference in Canada. Dhaliwal, who represents the Surrey-Newton riding – a community deeply affected by these accusations – didn’t mince words, calling the official “irresponsible” and “out of touch.” His strong rebuke highlights a potentially significant rift within the Canadian government regarding the true state of relations with India.
Liberal MP STUNNED! Did India REALLY Stop Interfer...
The timing of this controversy couldn’t be worse. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is currently in India, slated for crucial meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Just before Trudeau's departure, an unnamed senior official, speaking on background, suggested that India had stopped targeting opponents in Canada. This statement, naturally, raised eyebrows. It's the first time we've heard such a definitive claim from the Canadian government, especially considering the gravity of the allegations, including accusations of involvement in at least one murder.
Dhaliwal, however, paints a very different picture. "I strongly condemn these statements... because he’s not in touch with the realities on the ground," he told Global News. He emphasizes that he’s in constant contact with the community and victims, who reportedly still fear for their safety and that of their families back in India. He alleges that this pressure comes in the form of diplomatic pressure, and other forms of coercion.
What makes Dhaliwal’s accusations particularly pointed is his assertion that the official's claims directly contradict the assessments of Canada's own national security agencies – the National Security Advisor, the RCMP, and CSIS. None of these organizations, according to Dhaliwal, have indicated any let-up in Indian interference efforts. Dhaliwal even believes he was personally targeted during the last federal election, which adds another layer of seriousness to his claims. It definitely makes you wonder who exactly this official is and what motivated them to make such a potentially misleading statement.
Adding fuel to the fire, Dhaliwal is now calling for an investigation into the official's "judgment and responsibilities," suggesting their suitability for their role should be reviewed. This is a serious charge, indicating a deep level of distrust and concern. The fact that the RCMP, CSIS, and the Prime Minister's Office haven't yet commented on the situation only adds to the sense of unease and uncertainty. Is this a case of miscommunication, a deliberate attempt to downplay the issue, or something else entirely? The answers, for now, remain elusive, but one thing is clear: this controversy threatens to overshadow Trudeau’s visit to India and further complicate already strained relations.
