Highguard's Looting Phase GONE?! Gamers Stunned by Bold New Mode!
Gaming News 26 February 2026

Highguard, a multiplayer shooter that's been fighting an uphill battle for player retention, is about to get a shot in the arm – or at least, that's the hope – with a brand new update. The developers, Wildlight, are clearly listening to the community, and this one's aimed squarely at addressing some persistent gripes.

Beyond the usual suspects – weapon balance tweaks, those ever-welcome quality-of-life improvements (seriously, can every game developer just bake those into every single update?), and the inevitable bug squashing – the real meat of this update is a brand new game mode called Raid Rush. And it's a pretty significant departure from Highguard's established formula.

So, what's Raid Rush all about? Well, it cuts straight to the chase: base attacks and defenses. Gone is the often-tedious looting phase that many players felt bogged down the pace of the game. I've personally heard quite a few complaints about the looting feeling like a chore rather than an engaging part of the experience, so this seems like a smart move by Wildlight. They're clearly trying to streamline the action and get players right into the thick of it.

Interestingly, Raid Rush will be exclusively available in the 5v5 format, which, if you remember, was itself a feature introduced in response to player feedback. It seems Wildlight is doubling down on this particular mode, perhaps seeing it as the key to revitalizing the game's popularity. It's a good reminder that developers actually *do* listen, sometimes!

To further emphasize the focus on 5v5 and Raid Rush, Wildlight is temporarily disabling regular 3v3 raids during the event. It's a bold move, no doubt, but it signals a clear direction. If you're itching for some 3v3 action, you'll have to head over to Highguard's ranked mode. This mode, by the way, can be unlocked by racking up victories in either 5v5 or the new Raid Rush mode, so the incentive to jump in and try the new content is definitely there.

Will this be enough to bring players back to Highguard and keep them engaged? Only time will tell. But credit to Wildlight for actively addressing player concerns and trying something new. They're not giving up on this game, and that's always a good sign. For a more in-depth look, you can read the full announcement over at GameSpot.
