**Will Power Opens Up on Andretti Move: 'Knew in my Gut' it was Right**

Will Power is adamant that his decision to jump ship to Andretti Global after a storied 17-year run with Team Penske isn't about settling old scores. While some are painting this as an "unleashed" Power ready to exact revenge, the veteran driver claims that's mostly just hype. I've seen these narratives before, and sometimes they hold water, sometimes they don't. With Power, I'm inclined to believe him – at least a little.

Will Power's Penske Exit: The Gut Feeling That Cha...

The 44-year-old, now filling the seat vacated by Colton Herta's move to Formula 2, admits he's feeling a definite sense of rejuvenation. Team Penske offered him a one-year contract extension, but Power ultimately decided that a fresh start was what he needed, hinting that things had become a bit too comfortable, perhaps even stagnant. Now, he says he feels more actively involved in the feedback loop with engineers and strategists at Andretti, which is a pretty big deal for a driver of his caliber.

Interestingly, Power will be working alongside Ron Ruzewski, a former Penske executive who was let go last May after some technical infractions involving two of the team's cars. Ruzewski, understandably, is eager to prove himself, but he also downplays any notion of revenge, stating, "I want to prove to myself that I can do this for me." It’s a sentiment I can respect. Sometimes, the best motivation is simply proving something to yourself.

Power, boasting an impressive 45 career victories and two series championships (the lion's share earned during his Penske years), brings a wealth of experience to the Andretti camp. "I just know in my gut it was the right decision," he said, also mentioning his remarkable 71 pole positions earned with Team Penske. "I'm old enough now to go with gut feelings. It was the right time." Sometimes you just know, right? It's hard to argue with that kind of certainty.

Earlier this offseason, Power did tell the Associated Press that his primary goal was to "beat Penske every single weekend." That’s fighting talk! However, he now seems to be tempering that slightly, suggesting he might race his former teammates with a bit more...consideration. "If you're a Penske teammate, you race your teammates harder than you do everyone else," he explained. "That's sort of what they instill in that team for some reason." An interesting observation, and potentially a real advantage for Power now that he's on the outside looking in.

Power clearly believes that Andretti has the resources and the potential to be a real force in the series. "It's enjoyable. It's exciting every time you go out because you're trying something new," he said. "And I think at Penske, you're rolling off the truck pretty good for the most part all the time and we were able to switch philosophies quickly. It was a very well-oiled machine." So, he admits Penske was a well-oiled machine, but implies that machine wasn't giving him the kind of creative input he wanted, or maybe even needed, at this stage in his career. Only time will tell if his gut feeling pays off.
